Festival in Ille-et-Vilaine
The Bécherel Book Night is a literary and festive event held every summer, in early August, in the Book City of Bécherel (Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany). For a day and an evening, the medieval town transforms into an open-air theatre: a large market for old and second-hand books, readings, storytelling, concerts, artistic workshops, exhibitions, and poetic strolls at dusk, in the heart of bookshops, second-hand booksellers, and the Maison du Livre.
The Bécherel Book Night is a literary and festive event organized by the Maison du Livre in the Book City of Bécherel, in Ille-et-Vilaine (Brittany). A small town of character entirely dedicated to books, Bécherel gathers throughout the year about fifteen bookshops, second-hand booksellers, bookbinders, and book artisans.
The day opens with a large market for old and second-hand books in the old town centre: second-hand booksellers and booksellers display their stalls to help collectors and curious visitors discover treasures, rarities, and forgotten works. At dusk, the city shifts into its most magical part, with readings, storytelling, musical offerings, and hybrid forms combining text, voice, and stage. Participatory workshops (calligraphy, illumination, bookbinding, engraving, etc.), indoor and outdoor exhibitions, and nocturnal poetic strolls complete the programme.
The event is free and accessible to all. The detailed programme (locations, times, workshops requiring registration) is announced closer to the date on the official channels of the Maison du Livre de Bécherel.
