Electronic music festival at the Théâtre Antique d'Orange
The Positiv Festival is one of Europe's most unique electronic events. Every summer since 2017, it has transformed the Théâtre Antique d'Orange—a masterpiece of 1st-century Roman architecture, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site—into a temple of electronic music. The marriage between a two-thousand-year-old monument and the most contemporary sounds of the global electro scene creates an aesthetic and emotional shock that is unique to this festival.
The founding idea of Positiv is simple and radical: to use the majesty of the Théâtre Antique, its 37-meter-high stage wall, and its exceptional natural acoustics as a setting for the most influential artists in international techno, house, and electro. The 9,000 seats of the theater welcome festival-goers from all over France and Europe to experience this unique event.
What fundamentally distinguishes the Positiv Festival from all other electronic events is its setting. The Théâtre Antique d'Orange is one of the best-preserved Roman theaters in the world. Built during the Roman Empire, likely under Augustus, it has survived twenty centuries of history before becoming, thanks to the festival, one of the most photogenic and impressive concert venues in the world. Its golden stones, illuminated at night by the festival's light shows and video projections, offer a visual spectacle as intense as the music itself.
Each edition features renowned video-mapping artists to adorn the columns, tiers, and stage wall with immersive visuals that interact with the music in real-time. This fusion of digital art and ancient architecture has become the festival's visual signature.
The Positiv Festival has established itself as one of the most highly regarded events on the European electronic scene. Its programming blends internationally renowned artists with emerging young talents, covering a wide spectrum from melancholic techno to moving house, as well as EBM, melodic techno, and progressive trance. Past editions have featured artists such as Paul Kalkbrenner, Amelie Lens, Charlotte de Witte, Mind Against, Boris Brejcha, James Hype, and Joachim Pastor, ensuring an exceptional artistic level at each edition.
The festival offers a holistic experience that goes beyond the simple concert. Pre-shows are organized on the forecourt of the Théâtre Antique before each main evening, allowing festival-goers to discover new artists in a more intimate atmosphere. On Friday and Saturday nights, after-parties continue until dawn at the Orange exhibition center, allowing night owls to extend the musical experience.
The Positiv Camp offers festival-goers the opportunity to stay on-site, transforming the event into a multi-day experience, timeless, in the unique atmosphere of Provençal nights. This all-in-one package—festival, accommodation, catering—is increasingly successful and reflects the organizers' ambition to create a true community around the festival.
The city of Orange is a natural setting for this type of event. Capital of the Chorégies since 1869, accustomed to grand musical evenings under the stars, it welcomes Positiv with the same enthusiasm as its operas. The Roman city—its UNESCO-listed triumphal arch, its medieval quarters, and its lively café terraces—offers an exceptional living environment for festival-goers wishing to extend their stay.
The surrounding Provence, with the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape just a few kilometers away, its garrigue scented with lavender and thyme, and the Rhône Valley in all its splendor, provides an ideal natural backdrop for festival-goers arriving the day before or staying after the festival.
In just a few years, the Positiv Festival has risen to become one of the benchmark events on the French electronic scene, alongside major festivals like Sonar, Primavera Sound, and Movement. Its unique positioning—combining an exceptional ancient site with a top-tier electronic lineup—has earned it international recognition and the attention of major specialized media (Resident Advisor, Mixmag). This reputation attracts an ever-increasing and more international audience each year.
The 8th edition of the POSITIV Electronic Festival takes place from August 14 to 16, 2026, at the Ancient Theatre of Orange. Three evenings of electronic music facing the UNESCO-listed Roman stage wall, with a lineup led by Boris Brejcha (Friday), Charlotte de Witte (Saturday), and Fisher (Sunday).
For its 8th edition, the POSITIV Electronic Festival returns to the Ancient Theatre of Orange from August 14 to 16, 2026, with three evenings dedicated to electronic music, within the exceptional setting of this Roman monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Each evening brings together a headliner from the global techno and house scene surrounded by emerging artists: on Friday 14, German Boris Brejcha, a figure of High-Tech Minimal with a clown mask; on Saturday 15, Belgian techno queen Charlotte de Witte; and on Sunday 16, Australian house phenomenon Fisher.
The festival offers free pre-parties on the forecourt of the Ancient Theatre as well as after-parties on Friday and Saturday at the Orange Exhibition Center, allowing every festival-goer to extend the experience.
Beyond the electronic festival on August 14, 15, and 16, the organizer POSITIV is scheduling other event concerts this summer at the Ancient Theatre of Orange, on separate dates and ticketing: Kool & The Gang (funk night, August 1st), Apashe with his Live Philharmonic Orchestra show (August 22), and Macklemore (August 29).
