Le Printemps des Douves: Chamber Music Outdoors
In the heart of the town of Veuzain-sur-Loire, in the hamlet of Onzain, the Jardin des Douves offers an exceptional bucolic setting for chamber music concerts. The Printemps des Douves, organized by the association Les Douves Onzain, has become a must-attend event for classical music lovers in Loir-et-Cher and beyond.
Exceptional Artists in a Remarkable Garden
The festival features leading musicians from major French and international ensembles. Among the artists who have performed at Les Douves: violinist Eva Zavaro, pianist Clément Lefebvre, members of the Ensemble Perspectives and the Quatuor Béla. The programs are carefully curated around major works from the repertoire: Bach's sonatas, quintets by Mozart and Brahms, harpsichord concertos, quartets by Beethoven, and baroque pieces.
A Human-Scale Festival
Printemps des Douves is distinguished by its intimacy and conviviality. The concerts bring together a loyal audience in a warm atmosphere, on the Douves terrace outdoors or in the communal hall in case of rain. The proximity to the artists, the landscape setting, and the natural acoustic quality of the garden create a unique musical experience, far from impersonal large concert halls.
Territorial Anchoring and Musical Season
Printemps des Douves is part of a broader musical season—including the Summer Musicale des Douves and autumn concerts—that makes Les Douves d'Onzain a reference cultural hub in the Loire Valley. The festival participates in Festillésime 41, the departmental cultural season of Loir-et-Cher, and contributes to the musical influence of the region between Blois and Amboise.
A Place Steeped in History
Les Douves d'Onzain, located at 7 rue de l'Écrevissière, is a heritage site that also offers bed and breakfast accommodation in the heart of the Loire castles. The garden, the historic moats, and the proximity to the Loire create an environment conducive to contemplation and music, just a few minutes from the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire and the Château d'Amboise.
