Poetry for Everyone in Lozère

The Printemps des Poètes en Lozère is an annual cultural event that irrigates the entire department for two weeks in March. Coordinated by the Departmental Media Library of Lozère, it offers a rich and accessible program, led by artists and companies invited to perform in the partner media libraries of the departmental network.

A Network of Mobilized Media Libraries

The strength of the Printemps des Poètes en Lozère lies in its territorial network. About ten partner media libraries, spread across the department, host performances, allowing residents of rural areas to access quality cultural programming. All shows are free, upon prior registration due to limited seating.

Original Poetry Shows

Each edition invites a company or artist to present an original poetry show. In 2025, the Compagnie Bibiche presented "Les Machines de Sophie", a typewriter show where the public becomes an actor, combining clownish energy and Oulipian writing techniques on seventeen poetic typewriters. Accessible from 10 years old, the show was presented eleven times throughout the department.

The Jeux Poétiques Mendois

In parallel with the Printemps des Poètes, the Jeux Poétiques Mendois reward the poetic talents of the region. Organized by the Léon Bourrier Poetry Center in partnership with the City of Mende, this poetry competition is open to all, and its award ceremony takes place in March, during the Printemps des Poètes.

A National Event with a Local Flavor

The Printemps des Poètes en Lozère is part of the national Printemps des Poètes, an event created in 1999 to celebrate poetry in all its forms. The Lozère version brings a local and close-up dimension to this national event, adapting it to the specificities of the territory and its inhabitants.
