Art at the heart of the land of a thousand ponds
The Salon des Peintres de la Brenne was born in 1987 from the desire to highlight the artistic richness inspired by the unique landscapes of the Brenne Regional Natural Park. Since its creation, this salon has become a must-attend event for artists and art lovers, attracting dozens of painters and sculptors each summer who come to capture the beauty of this land of a thousand ponds.
The exhibition is held at the Moulin de Mézières-en-Brenne, an exhibition space managed by the Brenne Regional Natural Park, located in the heart of the village. This space hosts temporary art and craft exhibitions throughout the year, but the Salon des Peintres is the highlight of the summer season. The rooms of the Mill offer a bright and warm setting for the presentation of the works.
The originality of the Salon des Peintres de la Brenne lies in its set theme: all exhibited works must be inspired by the Brenne, its landscapes, its fauna, and its flora. This stimulating constraint pushes artists to explore the multiple facets of this exceptional territory: the shimmering ponds at sunrise, the grey herons taking flight, the flowery meadows in spring, the oak forests in autumn colors, the heather moors, and the changing skies of Berry.
The salon is open to amateur and professional artists practicing all techniques: watercolor, oil painting, gouache, pastel, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. This diversity of styles and techniques offers visitors a complete panorama of contemporary artistic creation inspired by a preserved natural territory. Each year, a jury awards prizes for the best works, including the Municipal Prize and the Mill Prize.
The Salon des Peintres de la Brenne is part of a broader cultural dynamic driven by the Brenne Regional Natural Park and the municipality of Mézières-en-Brenne. The exhibition, held from late July to late August, coincides with the peak tourist season, allowing visitors to combine artistic discovery with the exploration of the park's natural riches: bird watching, hiking around the ponds, and discovering the built heritage of the Brenne.
The 40th Salon des Peintres de la Brenne will be held at the Moulin de Mézières-en-Brenne from late July to late August 2026. This anniversary edition will celebrate forty years of artistic creation inspired by the landscapes of the Brenne of a thousand ponds.
The exhibition will be open to amateur and professional artists of all trends: watercolor, oil painting, gouache, pastel, drawing, and sculpture, on the set theme of the Brenne.
Mézières-en-Brenne is located in the Indre department (36), about 50 km northwest of Châteauroux, in the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park.
Exhibition open from late July to late August. Mill opening hours: inquire with the Brenne Regional Natural Park.
