About Sarlat Film

The Sarlat Film Festival is a film festival created in 1991 in Sarlat-la-Canéda, in Dordogne. Its unique feature is hosting 600 high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual, from all over France, to meet professionals in the seventh art. Every November, the festival offers preview screenings, special screenings, masterclasses, and meetings with directors and actors.

A festival born from cinema education

The Sarlat Film Festival was born in 1991, following the creation in 1986 of a cinema option in French high schools. It is the only cultural event offering high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual an educational program centered around the films studied for the baccalaureate.

A unique meeting place

Each autumn, nearly 600 high school students and their teachers converge on Sarlat for an immersion into the world of cinema. They mingle with directors, actors, screenwriters, and technicians during screenings, masterclasses, and round tables. The festival also welcomes several thousand spectators to celebrate cinema and its history.

A demanding program

The festival offers preview screenings, special screenings, cine-concerts, and meetings with film crews. The program highlights French and international cinema, with a particular focus on works intended to enrich the cinematic culture of younger generations.

Sarlat Film — edition 2026

As every autumn, the national gathering for high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual will offer previews, meetings with film crews, and workshops. The detailed program will be announced on the official website.

The Sarlat Film Festival returns for its 35th edition from November 3 to 7, 2026. The festival will once again bring together nearly 600 final-year high school students specializing in cinema-audiovisual, from all over France, around films on the baccalaureate program, alongside the general public.

The call for films for this edition is open from June 1 to August 21, 2026. The official selection (previews, feature and short films, special screenings) and the day-by-day schedule will be communicated on the official website festivaldufilmdesarlat.com in the weeks preceding the festival.
