Nighttime historical show at the Abbey of Bon-Repos with 350 extras
The Son et Lumière de Bon-Repos is a nighttime historical show held every summer in front of the facade of the Abbey of Bon-Repos, a 12th-century Cistercian abbey nestled in the heart of inland Brittany. For over 35 years, this show has been recognized as one of the most beautiful sound and light shows in France.
The show mobilizes over 350 volunteer extras and 30 horsemen on an 8,000 m² stage, with carts, carriages, and farm animals. For two hours, spectators are immersed in a monumental historical fresco, driven by giant video projections on the abbey's facade, spectacular pyrotechnic effects, and an enchanting musical score.
The show tells the story of Grand Thua, the soul of Bon-Repos, who awakens from a millennial sleep. The characters embark on a quest through the ages, transported from one universe to another, from one era to another, retracing the tumultuous history of the abbey and Brittany.
The Abbey of Bon-Repos, founded in 1184, offers an exceptional setting for this show. The two-hectare site becomes the theater of a collective adventure where volunteers and professionals gather each year to bring this heritage to life through the art of live performance.
The Son et Lumière de Bon-Repos returns in 2026 for six exceptional performances: July 29 and 31, then August 1, 5, 7 and 8, 2026. In front of the façade of Bon-Repos Abbey, in Bon Repos sur Blavet (Côtes-d'Armor), 350 volunteer extras and about thirty riders bring to life for two hours a monumental historical fresco, supported by giant projections, pyrotechnic effects and a captivating musical score.
