A living show in a Renaissance castle
The Son et Lumière of the Château de Valençay is part of the great tradition of night shows in the Loire Valley castles. Since 1966, hundreds of volunteers from the Valençay region have mobilized each summer to create a living show at the foot of this castle, a listed Historic Monument and former residence of Prince de Talleyrand. The castle, with its Renaissance facades and majestic park, offers a natural setting of exceptional beauty for these night performances.
The CAPVAL association, cultural driver of the territory
The association CAPVAL (Culture and Animation in the Pays de Valençay), founded in 1983, is the heir to the structures that have been producing shows in the Valençay region since 1966. Under the artistic direction of Jean-Claude Baudoin, CAPVAL has created twenty original night shows, performed by the inhabitants of Valençay and its surroundings. Labeled Tourisme et Handicap, the association is a member of the French Federation of Historical Fêtes and Shows.
Adaptations of tales and stories for all audiences
Each show is an original creation that adapts a classic tale or historical story: Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Queen Margot, Le Capitaine Fracasse, Snow White, The Love of the Three Oranges, and for the 20th creation, Puss in Boots based on the famous tale by Charles Perrault. The staging combines theatrical performance, light effects, music, and period costumes, all crowned by a fireworks display over the castle.
A complete evening in the heart of Berry
The evening begins at 8 p.m. with a countryside meal served in the castle park, allowing spectators to enjoy the setting before the show begins at 10 p.m. The friendly atmosphere and the quality of the staging make each performance a magical moment, attracting thousands of spectators each summer from all over the Centre-Val de Loire region and beyond.
