A pioneering eco-citizen festival since 1993
The Terre de Couleurs Festival is one of the oldest world music festivals in the south of France. Created in 1993, initially in Sainte-Croix-Volvestre, it settled in Daumazan-sur-Arize over the years, finding an ideal natural setting by the Lac de Daumazan for its project. From its origins, the festival has championed a pioneering eco-citizen approach in France: waste sorting, reusable tableware, short supply chains, environmental awareness, and promotion of local producers are an integral part of the event's DNA. More than thirty years after its creation, Terre de Couleurs remains true to its founding values.
World Music, Street Arts, and Live Performances
The festival's program blends world music, rock, reggae, electro, afrobeat, cumbia, and traditional music, attracting artists from all continents to the Daumazan stage. Beyond the concerts, the festival gives pride of place to street arts — theater, circus, puppetry, itinerant shows — which animate the village and the lake surroundings throughout the day. Free areas are set up for families, with activities and shows accessible to all, while the evening concerts take place on a main stage facing the lake.
A Lake, a Village, a Popular Celebration
The festival unfolds over two days in mid-July, on July 18th and 19th, by the Lac de Daumazan-sur-Arize (or Lac de Saint-Ybars depending on the editions). The natural setting — lake, meadows, ancient trees — offers a bucolic and relaxing backdrop for a human-sized festival. The village of Daumazan-sur-Arize, located an hour from Toulouse at the foot of the Pyrenees, is crossed by the Arize river and surrounded by green hills. The festival is a highlight of local life, uniting volunteers, associations, and residents around a shared cultural and civic project.
The Terre de Couleurs Association
The Association Terre de Couleurs aims to "create a dynamic between different associations and generations to develop a cultural program through convivial events". Beyond the festival, it carries out cultural and educational activities throughout the year, in partnership with local stakeholders and territorial authorities. Supported by the Région Occitanie, the Département de l'Ariège, and partner municipalities, the festival also benefits from the support of numerous volunteers who make it a popular and warm event.
