The Medieval Festival at the Domaine de Chaalis transports visitors back several centuries within the walls of the royal abbey in Fontaine-Chaalis. For one weekend, the Cistercian site comes alive with an artisan market, armored buhurt combat, and chivalric tournaments, alongside musicians, games, and workshops for children. The event centers on Joan of Arc and the Battle of Fourcheret, fought in 1429 on the abbey's grounds during the kingdom's reconquest against Anglo-Burgundian forces.
The Medieval Festival at the Domaine de Chaalis — edition 2026
On September 5th and 6th, 2026, the Chaalis Abbey celebrates Joan of Arc and the Battle of Fourcheret with a grand medieval festival. Artisan markets, equestrian jousts, and full-contact medieval combat (béhourd) will take place within the Cistercian grounds, where Joan of Arc will appear in costume throughout the weekend.
