Tilleul en Fête: Celebration of the Linden Tree of the Provençal Baronnies
Tilleul en Fête is the emblematic event of Buis-les-Baronnies, the historical capital of linden in France. Since 2006, this festival pays homage to the king tree of the Baronnies and to the entire sector of aromatic and medicinal plants in the region.
A Themed Market in the Heart of the Village
The Place des Arcades and the Cloître des Dominicains host a market rich in quality products: aromatic and medicinal plants, essential oils, plant-based cosmetics, syrups, herbal teas, books, and local crafts. Producers and artisans from the Baronnies showcase their know-how in an exceptional heritage setting.
Workshops, Conferences, and Traditions
The day offers numerous activities for children and adults: workshops for making soaps, lavender spindles, and plant-based printing, and discovery of linden uses. Conferences and a traditional concert complete the cultural program.
The Brotherhood of Linden Knights
A highlight of the festival, the chapter of the Brotherhood of Linden Knights perpetuates the tradition and the attachment of the inhabitants to this emblematic tree. The ceremony is followed by the famous Castillou aperitif, a linden-based drink offered to all visitors. The demonstration of linden mojitos, with or without alcohol, has become a must-see of the festival.
Recognized Cultural Heritage
In 2024, the linden harvesting practices of the Provençal Baronnies were inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, consecrating a centuries-old tradition that is the pride of the region. The Tilleul en Fête actively contributes to the valorization and transmission of this living heritage.
