Trail des Côtes de Meuse: Nature and Performance in the Land of Hattonchâtel

The Trail des Côtes de Meuse has established itself as an unmissable event for nature running enthusiasts in the Grand Est region. Organized at the start of the season, in March, this event allows runners to (re)discover the spectacular landscapes of the Côtes de Meuse in demanding and authentic race conditions.

Two Courses, Two Atmospheres

The event offers two distances suitable for different runner profiles:

  • 10 km Trail (250 m D+): an accessible but hilly course, ideal for runners wishing to try trail running or enjoy a nature race without excessive distance. The moderate elevation gain allows for discovery of the Côtes de Meuse without too much technical difficulty.
  • 20 km Trail (750 m D+): the main, more demanding course, which takes runners to the heights of the Côtes de Meuse. With 750 meters of positive elevation gain, this trail offers a real physical challenge through forests, ridge paths, and steep trails.

Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel, an Exceptional Setting

The village of Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel is nestled in the heart of the Côtes de Meuse, a line of limestone hills stretching from north to south of the department. This area is renowned for:

  • Its medieval heritage, notably the Château d'Hattonchâtel restored in the early 20th century
  • Its Côtes de Meuse vineyards, which produce typical grey and red wines of the region
  • Its proximity to the Lac de Madine, a vast 1,100-hectare body of water in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine
  • Its exceptional panoramas over the Woëvre plain and the Regional Natural Park

Organization and Friendliness

The Trail des Côtes de Meuse is organized in a spirit of friendliness and sharing. Bib collection, starts, and finishes take place at the Vigneulles community hall, which also hosts a catering area and a warm welcome point. Local volunteers provide quality support along all the courses.
