A night trail in a medieval city

The Trail du Vieux Semur is a unique sporting event that takes place in January, at night, in the exceptional setting of the medieval city of Semur-en-Auxois. Runners set off through the paths, gardens, and paved streets of this fortified town perched on a pink granite rocky promontory, offering a sporting challenge in a remarkable heritage setting. Created in 2017, the trail has quickly gained notoriety and will celebrate its 10th edition in January 2026.

Three courses for all levels

The Trail du Vieux Semur offers three trail races adapted to different runner profiles:

• Trail du Vieux Semur XL (25 km, 620 m D+): the flagship event for experienced trail runners, a demanding course through the hills and valleys around Semur.
• Trail du Vieux Semur (17 km, 500 m D+): an intermediate course using the paths and streets of the medieval city.
• Trail des Remparts (10 km, 250 m D+): a discovery trail ideal for beginners, focused on the city and its immediate surroundings.

In addition, two hikes of 17 and 11 km are offered, as well as a canicross of 8 km and races for young people (from 500 m to 3,000 m depending on age categories).

A friendly winter event

The Trail du Vieux Semur is distinguished by its friendly atmosphere and its winter character. Starts are staggered in the afternoon, with part of the course run at night with a headlamp. Registrations are made online on the Sports'N Connect platform, with the possibility of registering on-site (with a supplement of 2 euros). The event is organized by a team of volunteers passionate about trail running and the city of Semur-en-Auxois.
