Jazz in all its forms in the heart of the Pays Voironnais
The Voiron Jazz Festival is a jazz festival organized every spring by the City of Voiron and its Conservatory of Music and Dance. Created in 2011, it celebrates jazz in its plurality and communicative energy through an IN program of concerts in the city's emblematic venues, a free OFF program throughout the Pays Voironnais, and Escales in neighboring towns. For more than two weeks, over 10,000 spectators come to meet 600 professional and amateur artists.
Created in 2011 on the initiative of the City of Voiron and its Conservatory of Music and Dance, the Voiron Jazz Festival has become in a few years a major cultural event in the Isère department and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Every spring, in March, the city of Voiron vibrates to the rhythm of jazz for more than two weeks, welcoming internationally renowned artists alongside emerging talents and local musicians.
The festival is structured around three complementary aspects that make it unique. The IN program forms the core of the festival with about ten concerts in Voiron's emblematic venues, notably the Salle des fêtes and Le Grand Angle. These evenings feature internationally acclaimed artists exploring jazz in all its dimensions: contemporary jazz, swing, soul, funk, afro-jazz, jazz fusion, world music, and original creations.
The OFF program extends throughout the Voironnais territory with numerous free concerts held in various locations: bars, restaurants, media libraries, shops, and public spaces. This program aims to reach a wide audience and introduce jazz to those who are not yet accustomed to it. Finally, the Escales extend the festival into neighboring towns, creating a true cultural network across the entire Pays Voironnais.
Supported by the municipality of Voiron with the backing of institutional and cultural partners such as Le Grand Angle, an inter-municipal performance venue in the Pays Voironnais, the festival places mediation and transmission at the heart of its approach. The Voiron Conservatory plays a central role in this educational mission, involving its students in the traditional opening of the festival with a musical parade through the city streets.
Since its creation, the Voiron Jazz Festival has built a loyal and growing audience, attracting over 10,000 spectators each year to witness performances by some 600 professional and amateur artists. This success reflects the vitality of the jazz scene in the Alps and the festival's ability to constantly renew its artistic offerings while remaining true to its values of sharing, discovery, and conviviality.
The artistic identity of the Voiron Jazz Festival is based on an open and generous vision of jazz. Far from being confined to a single genre, the program embraces the richness and cross-pollination of the genre: from intimate acoustic jazz to large brass ensembles, from funk grooves to soul, as well as Balkan music, flamenco, or Caribbean sounds. This diversity makes the festival a space for unique musical encounters where each edition holds its share of surprises and emotions.
15th edition of the Voiron Jazz Festival, from March 11 to 27, 2026. A jazz and groove program with internationally renowned artists including Kenny Garrett, Émile Parisien Quartet, Célia Kameni, and Charlotte Planchou & Mark Priore. Festive inauguration with the traditional parade and the concert by Tzila Brass.
The Voiron Jazz Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary from March 11 to 27, 2026, with a program focused on jazz and groove. For this jubilee edition, the festival welcomes internationally acclaimed artists and continues its mission to make the Pays Voironnais vibrate to the sound of jazz.
The festival opens on Wednesday, March 11, with the traditional inaugural parade. Starting at 6 PM, students from the Conservatory, amateur musicians, and the Jules Ferry Brass Band will parade from the forecourt of Voiron Town Hall to Le Grand Angle for the official launch at 6:30 PM. The evening continues with a free concert by Tzila Brass, a band that shares its passion for Balkan fanfare music in a festive and warm atmosphere.
The highlight of this 15th edition is undoubtedly the performance by American saxophonist Kenny Garrett on Friday, March 13, at Le Grand Angle. A living legend of jazz and former Miles Davis sideman, Kenny Garrett presents his project Sounds from the Ancestors, a vibrant tribute to John Coltrane, Art Blakey, and Roy Hargrove. In the opening act, Géraldine Laurent and Laurent de Wilde kick off the festivities.
The festival also features French saxophonist Émile Parisien with his quartet, a leading figure in contemporary European jazz known for his inventive playing and virtuosity. Singer Célia Kameni, a revelation on the French jazz and soul scene, brings her powerful voice and personal compositions. The duo Charlotte Planchou & Mark Priore offers an intimate encounter between voice and piano. The group FEET and the project Daoud complete a rich and varied program.
True to its mission of cultural democratization, this 15th edition, like every year, offers a free OFF program in numerous venues across the Pays Voironnais and Escales in partner towns, allowing everyone to discover jazz in a friendly and accessible atmosphere.
