The Chénérailles horse fair
The Chénérailles Horse Fair takes over the fairground square from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Since 1902 it has been held twice a year, on the second Sunday of May and the second Sunday of October.
Between 200 and 250 horses are shown at each edition.
About 5,000 visitors come to each edition, joined by around a hundred equestrian professionals: breeders, dealers and riding centres from all over France. Some of the horses go to the meat trade, many others to riding centres and breeding.
In the 1970s the fair ranked fourth nationally on the horse market. It remains the largest horse fair in the Creuse.
Around the fairground, a street market brings together exhibitors and travelling traders, with food and drink on site. The Cheval de Cœur association offers pony rides. Admission is free, and so is parking.
Twenty-five kilometres east of Guéret, on the D990.
From Bordeaux to the Limousin, the rest of the weekend
The Animasia Festival fills the Parc des Expositions in Bordeaux on October 10 and 11. A cosplay contest, concerts, martial arts demonstrations and talks follow one another around Asian cultures, with a village of several hundred exhibitors. Created in 2005, it relies on hundreds of volunteers. Visitors with reduced mobility are welcome, and their companions enter free.
In the Landes, sport, ecology and bullfighting tradition share the weekend. The Marathon des Landes starts its three distances on Sunday, marathon, half marathon and 10 km, from Place Saint-Roch in Mont-de-Marsan; the marathon and half marathon leave together at 8:30 a.m. The course runs past the Lacataye keep, the medieval lanes and the Marsan greenway, with a start and finish village on the square, food stalls and live music.
The Festival CAP ! devotes both days to ecological, energy, food and social transitions, free of charge: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. near the Lac de Christus in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Abbesse site. In Saint-Sever, the Semaine Taurine opens on October 10 for nine days, with the Toro Expo at the Cloître des Jacobins; the Peña Jeune Afición is the organiser.
Saturday 10/10/2026 belongs to Biaudos and Bergerac. In the Landes, the Festitruck gathers some thirty trucks and mobile stalls, with wooden games, workshops, concerts and DJs until 1 a.m., and free admission. In Bergerac, the Fête des Vendanges de la Madeleine starts at 5:30 p.m. with a grape press, then a meal and an open-air concert in front of the church at 7:30 p.m. The neighbourhood association runs the party. On Place de la Madeleine, admission is free and the meal is paid, by registration.
Saint-Pierre-de-Côle devotes its Côle Medieval Festival to Romanesque art this year: a historian's lecture, a concert of early music and a medieval dance workshop. At the Château de Brie in Champagnac-la-Rivière, the Limouzi Film Festival screens fiction, documentaries and animated films about the countryside, with meetings with filmmakers and an audience vote after each screening. In Marmande, Jazz et Garonne ends on Sunday, October 11, with a 15-euro ticket that day. The festival shares its concerts between the Théâtre Comœdia, film concerts at the Cinéma Le Plaza and the church of Fourques-sur-Garonne.
