Les Nuits Courtes, last day in Fontenay-le-Comte

Les Nuits Courtes runs from 22 to 24 October at the Espace Culturel René-Cassin. The Fontenay en Scène association created the festival in 2017, and it won the "best new festival" prize at the Festivals Awards in its very first edition.

Two stages share the venue. The René-Cassin stage receives the headliners, the Chapiteau stage the discoveries and the DJ sets. Chinese Man, Tryo, Bigflo & Oli and Gramatik topped the bill of the first edition, then Danakil, Keziah Jones, Dionysos, Orelsan, Wax Tailor, Izia, Pomme, Zaho de Sagazan, Dub Inc and Suzane came through.

Cashless payment, food trucks and four local breweries (La Mélusine, La Muette, La Cibulle and Smeela) for the catering, with vegetarian options. A campsite is open to holders of a specific wristband, and hundreds of volunteers run the event.

The evening pass starts at 37 euros, the two-day pass costs 65 euros, and the Pass Culture and the ePass are accepted. Prices are reduced for 12 to 18-year-olds, students under 26 and jobseekers, and children under 6 get in free. To come without a car, the Billet Live scheme combines train and bus for 5 euros. Fontenay-le-Comte lies 31 kilometres from Niort, 50 from La Rochelle and 111 from Poitiers, and bike parking is set up on site.

Île d'Yeu, Angers and La Guyonnière

Saturday 24 is also the last day of Les Berniques en Folie, in Port-Joinville on the Île d'Yeu, during the All Saints holidays. Concerts in the harbour bars and at the Casino, dance, street arts, a children's show: most events are free, and the paid shows cost 5 to 15 euros. At the end of October, the crossing leaves from Fromentine. Deposit cups and water bottles replace disposable tableware, and the artists get around by bike. Tickets are booked online on HelloAsso and at the tourist office.

In Angers, the International Bicycle Travel Festival takes over the Congress Centre on boulevard Carnot all weekend, from 24 October. Cyclists present the films shot during their journeys, followed by a discussion with the makers. The programme also includes workshops, debates, meetings by country, a children's section and a swap area for gear and travel guides.

Ô Fest' takes place on 24/10/2026: local DJs gather at the Salle Espace Agapé in La Guyonnière, in the commune of Montaigu-Vendée. Bar and food on site.

In the Sarthe, Graines d'Images Junior takes over the département's cinemas. The arthouse films are aimed at audiences from age 2, with previews, activities and meetings.

Photography, free to see until 1 November

The exhibitions of the Nantes Photography Fortnight can be visited for free in about fifteen venues in Nantes and its surroundings: galleries, artists' studios, municipal spaces. A theme renewed each year serves as the common thread. At L'Atelier, rue Châteaubriand, the doors open on Sunday from 11 am to 1:30 pm, then from 2:30 to 6 pm. About fifteen volunteers run the association, which has organised the event since 1997.

In the Vendée, the Festival Photo à Ciel Ouvert hangs nearly 300 large-format photographs along a 1.5-kilometre trail in L'Île-d'Olonne, from the village walls to the salt marshes. About thirty photographers exhibit. Access is open and free every day.

The trail starts in the village centre, ten minutes from Les Sables-d'Olonne on the D36.
