Binic Fête la Morue 2026 — Four days by the harbor
The 2026 edition runs from Thursday, May 14th to Sunday, May 17th, coinciding with the long Ascension weekend. Supported by the Bretagne Terre-Neuve Islande (BTNI) association and eight local groups, the festival is completely free and open to all. It typically draws between 30,000 and 40,000 visitors to celebrate Binic's maritime heritage and the legacy of the Newfoundland fishing fleets.
The parade of tall ships
The festivities kick off on Thursday, May 14th around 5:00 PM with the arrival of about thirty French and European tall ships—schooners, dories, and workboats—which must enter the harbor within just forty-five minutes, timed to the tide. On Saturday, May 16th starting at 6:00 PM, the "La Fille du Vent" challenge brings together around thirty traditional boats for a parade in front of the Binic lighthouse. Dory and sculling races are held in the harbor throughout the weekend.
Three stages and musical street performances
The musical program is spread across three stages located throughout the town, complemented by roving performances from bagads, batucada groups, and brass bands in the streets and along the quays. Thursday evening is dedicated to world music (sea shanties, Louisiana Cajun, Irish folk). Friday celebrates traditional sea shanties. On Saturday, a folk dance followed by a grand fest-noz gets everyone moving. The Bagad de Plouha provides entertainment in the afternoons, including Breton dance workshops.
Gastronomy, crafts, and heritage
Local associations offer a wide range of cod-based specialties (accras, brandade, Breton-style cod), paired with regional products like cheese and cider. The artisan market features over 40 creators, stretching from the Esplanade du Palus to Quai Jean Bart. The Ploubazlanec Museum hosts a maritime heritage area with wooden games for children, and several lectures on the history of cod fishing take place throughout the weekend, alongside exhibitions of model ships, archives, nautical artifacts, creative workshops for children, and demonstrations of traditional maritime trades.

Homage to the Terre-Neuvas
Binic Fête la Morue celebrates the heritage of the Terre-Neuvas, these Binic sailors who, for centuries, braved the Atlantic storms to fish for cod on the banks of Newfoundland and Iceland. This maritime epic, which profoundly marked the identity of Binic-Étables-sur-Mer, is at the heart of this great popular festival organized annually on Ascension weekend.
Four days around the port
The event traditionally starts on Thursday with the majestic arrival of about thirty old rigs — schooners, dories, workboats — which must enter the port in only forty-five minutes. Throughout the weekend, the port and the streets of Binic vibrate to the rhythm of:
- Sea shanty and world music concerts: English shanties, Louisiana Cajun, Irish folk, fest-noz, and Breton groups like the Bagad de Plouha.
- Cod tastings: accras, brandade, Breton-style cod, and other specialties prepared by local associations.
- Traditional regattas: dory and sculling races, boat parade like the “La Fille du Vent” challenge in front of the Binic lighthouse.
- Maritime heritage area animated by the Ploubazlanec museum, wooden games, exhibitions, conferences on the history of cod fishing.
- Craft market gathering more than 40 creators on the Esplanade du Palus, with local products (cheeses, cider, etc.).
- Children's activities: creative workshops, introduction to Breton dance, discovery of sea trades.
An event supported by the associative fabric
Binic Fête la Morue is organized by the Bretagne Terre-Neuve Islande (BTNI) association with the help of a collective of eight local associations, testifying to the territorial roots and the spirit of conviviality of this event.
