Napoleon's Youth in Auxonne

The show "Bonaparte, the Other Napoleon" is a sound and light show that retraces the youth of Napoleon Bonaparte in Auxonne, a small garrison town in Côte-d'Or where the future emperor stayed as a young artillery officer from 1788 to 1791. It was in Auxonne, at the Royal Artillery School, that young Bonaparte perfected his military knowledge and forged part of his personality. This show invites you to discover an unknown Napoleon, far from the imperial image, during his formative years.

A Show in an Exceptional Historical Setting

The show takes place in the courtyard of the Château d'Auxonne, whose origins date back to the Louis XI castle at the end of the 15th century. This exceptional heritage site, in the heart of the town where young Bonaparte lived, offers a natural and authentic setting for this nocturnal show. Light projections, sound effects, and special effects transform the castle courtyard into an open-air theater.

The Confrérie Facétieuse, a Troupe of Passionate Volunteers

The show is driven by the Confrérie Facétieuse, an association of volunteers passionate about history and live performance. This troupe creates popular expression shows, meaning historical performances by amateurs from the local community. The members of the Confrérie participate in writing, directing, acting, and technical aspects, making this sound and light show a collective and unifying project.

An Annual Event Around August 15th

The show is traditionally scheduled around August 15th, a symbolic date as it corresponds to Napoleon Bonaparte's birthday (born August 15, 1769). Performances take place in the evening, at 10:00 PM, for several consecutive days. This summer event attracts several hundred spectators each evening to the courtyard of the Château d'Auxonne.
