The Presses of the Dukes of Burgundy, a Unique Heritage
The Presses of the Dukes of Burgundy in Chenôve are an exceptional testament to Burgundy's wine heritage. Built at the beginning of the 15th century, these monumental wooden presses are the oldest and largest in Burgundy. The first text mentioning these presses dates back to 1238. The enormous counterweight nicknamed “la Margot” ensures constant pressure on the grapes. The Fête de la Pressée allows the public to see these historic machines in operation and taste the bourru, fresh grape juice pressed the old-fashioned way.
The Old Village Transformed into a Medieval Quarter
During the Fête de la Pressée weekend, the old village of Chenôve is transformed into a medieval quarter animated by the Association des Amis de la Fête de la Pressée. Volunteers in period costumes share the local terroir through tastings of bourru and traditional products. The streets host artisans practicing ancient crafts: coopers, basket makers, blacksmiths, lacemakers, and engravers. Wooden games, musical, and artistic entertainment complete the program.
A Popular Festival Since 1986
Created in 1986, the Fête de la Pressée celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016. It has become a must-attend event of the cultural season in Côte-d'Or, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The event coincides with the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) in September, allowing visitors to discover the presses and the old village in a festive and educational context. The Office Municipal de la Culture de Chenôve (OMC) coordinates the entire event.
