Experimental and electronic music in the heart of the Pyrenees in Aulus-les-Bains
The CAMP Mountain Music Festival is an experimental and electronic music festival held annually in September in the spa town of Aulus-les-Bains, at an altitude of 750 meters in the Ariège Pyrenees. Limited to 150 places, this intimate three-day event features musical performances in unusual locations—the village church, the old schoolhouse, and CAMP itself—as well as workshops, film screenings, sound installations, acoustic walks, and conferences. Between concerts, hikes, and river swims, CAMP offers a unique experience where contemporary music dialogues with the Pyrenean mountains.
The CAMP Mountain Music Festival is one of the most unique festivals in the Pyrenees. Nestled in the spa town of Aulus-les-Bains, at 750 meters altitude, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and glacial torrents, this confidential festival welcomes only 150 festival-goers per edition. For three days, the small mountain village transforms into an open-air musical laboratory, where experimental, electronic, ambient, and avant-garde sounds resonate in locations as unusual as they are intimate.
CAMP concerts do not take place on a traditional stage. They are held in three emblematic locations in the village: the church of Aulus-les-Bains, whose acoustics lend themselves to the most daring performances, the old schoolhouse, converted into an intimate concert hall, and CAMP itself, a versatile space that hosts the most experimental performances. This dispersion of concerts throughout the village invites festival-goers to wander between venues, discovering the alleys, fountains, and Pyrenean panoramas of Aulus-les-Bains along the way.
CAMP is not limited to concerts. The festival offers a rich program of workshops (sound creation, modular synthesis, recording techniques), film screenings, conferences, and sound installations that occupy the village spaces. Sound walks in the surrounding forests and valleys offer a unique immersive experience, blending listening to the natural environment with musical creation. Hiking, river swimming, and camping in the Regional Natural Park of the Ariège Pyrenees complete the experience, making CAMP a festival where music and mountains become one.
CAMP is also a place for artistic residencies that operates year-round, hosting musicians, sound artists, and creators from around the world in a mountainous setting conducive to creation. The September festival is the culmination of this annual activity, a moment of encounter between resident artists and a curious public. Supported by an international community of experimental music enthusiasts, CAMP has gained a reputation that extends far beyond the borders of Ariège, attracting festival-goers from all over Europe to this isolated Pyrenean village.
