Open-air cinema screenings in the neighborhoods of Reims
Ciné Plein Air is part of the "Un Été à Reims" program, a major cultural and summer event organized by the City of Reims. From early July to late August, free giant screen screenings are held in the parks and public spaces of the city's various neighborhoods, in partnership with the association La Pellicule Ensorcelée. Each evening features a friendly picnic, artistic entertainment, a cinema quiz, and an open-air screening, creating a festive and family-friendly atmosphere under the stars.
Ciné Plein Air is one of the highlights of the "Un Été à Reims" program, a cultural initiative launched by the City of Reims to liven up the neighborhoods during the summer. In partnership with the association La Pellicule Ensorcelée, free giant screen screenings are offered from early July to late August in Reims' parks, squares, and public spaces: Parc Mendès France in Murigny, Square Michel-Ange in Clairmarais, Parc Saint-Bruno in Croix-Rouge, Parc Léo Lagrange in Porte de Paris, and Parc de Champagne.
Each Ciné Plein Air screening follows a festive and friendly schedule. The site opens at 7 PM, inviting spectators to settle in comfortably. At 8 PM, a large picnic is offered with tables and chairs provided, while neighborhood residents organize barbecues and activities. Around 8:30 PM, artistic entertainment takes over—music, dance, shows—in partnership with Reims' cultural institutions. At 10 PM, a cinema quiz with prizes builds the excitement before the film screening on the giant screen at 10:30 PM.
The films shown are chosen to appeal to a wide family audience. The 2025 edition notably featured "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" by Nick Park, "March of the Penguins" by Luc Jacquet, "The Goonies" by Richard Donner, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Tim Burton, and "Castle in the Sky" by Hayao Miyazaki. "Ciné-goûters" (cinema snack times) are also organized during the day for children aged 5 and up, with entertainment, a screening, and a complimentary snack.
Beyond entertainment, Ciné Plein Air contributes to neighborhood life and social cohesion. By taking over local public spaces, these evenings create opportunities for residents to meet and share. The free and accessible nature of the event makes it an inclusive gathering, open to all without distinction.
New edition of Ciné Plein Air planned as part of Un Été à Reims 2026, with free screenings in the city's parks.
