About Festival de la Terre

The Festival de la Terre is the flagship event of the Jeunes Agriculteurs d'Île-de-France Ouest. Born in the 1950s, this major agricultural and festive gathering is held every September on farmland in a different rural commune each year. Sonchamp, the leading agricultural commune in the Yvelines, hosted the 69th edition in 2024, Égly (Essonne) the 70th in 2025, and Attainville (Val-d'Oise) will host the 71st on September 5th and 6th, 2026. Over the course of a weekend, the public discovers the Île-de-France agricultural world through a local produce market, a petting zoo, farm machinery demonstrations, helicopter rides, educational workshops, and children's activities. The festival celebrates farming professions and promotes short supply chains and local producers in the Île-de-France region.

Festival de la Terre — edition 2026

The 71st edition of the Festival de la Terre, organized by the Young Farmers of Western Île-de-France, is coming to Attainville in the Val-d'Oise on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, 2026. From 10 am to 6 pm, enjoy two days of agricultural festivities featuring nearly 70 exhibitors, a local produce market, a petting zoo, farm machinery demonstrations, helicopter rides, and around twenty activities for all ages. Admission is 7 €, and free for children under 10.

The 71st edition in Attainville, September 5th and 6th, 2026

True to its traveling tradition, the Festival de la Terre moves to a new location every year. For 2026, the Young Farmers of Western Île-de-France are bringing their major agricultural event to Attainville, in the Val-d'Oise, on an agricultural road located opposite the Gamm Vert in Villaines-sous-Bois. The site will be open on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm.

Attainville was chosen for the agricultural diversity of the area, where market gardening, arboriculture, and innovative production methods coexist in the Pays de France region. Nicolas Hervin, General Secretary of the Young Farmers of Western Île-de-France and event communications coordinator, summarizes the festival's ambition: to serve as a "showcase for Île-de-France agriculture."

Nearly 70 exhibitors and a local market

The festival brings together nearly 70 exhibitors, including local producers, artisans, farm machinery dealers, and professional organizations. The local market is a central feature, offering regional products and the chance to talk directly with farmers about short supply chains and the origins of their goods.

Local vendors will provide food and refreshments on-site, keeping with the spirit of the event.

Around twenty activities for the whole family

The program includes about twenty activities for everyone to enjoy: meeting farm animals, a petting zoo, farm machinery demonstrations, educational workshops, and environmental awareness activities. Helicopter rides and children's games round out the experience.

The event attracts nearly 10,000 visitors each year and is one of the most important gatherings for the Île-de-France agricultural community. It is organized by the Young Farmers with the support of numerous partners, including the Chambre d'agriculture d'Île-de-France, the Plaine Vallée agglomeration, and the Carnelle Pays-de-France community of municipalities.

Bridging the gap between the public and the farming world

Beyond the festivities, the Festival de la Terre has an educational mission: to raise awareness of agricultural professions, highlight the work of local farmers, and spark discussions on food issues, short supply chains, innovation, and the future of rural areas. It is also an opportunity for the Young Farmers to reconnect with young professionals in the sector.

Festival de la Terre: Over seventy years of celebrating Île-de-France agriculture

For over seven decades, the Festival de la Terre has brought thousands of visitors together every early autumn around a shared passion: agriculture and local heritage. Organized by the Jeunes Agriculteurs d'Île-de-France Ouest, this traveling event sets up shop in a different rural commune each year, transforming farmland into a massive public celebration for the weekend.

The Festival de la Terre is much more than a simple agricultural fair. It is a convivial, festive, family-oriented, and institutional event designed to bring the general public closer to the farming world and showcase the expertise of Île-de-France farmers. It attracts nearly 10,000 visitors and between sixty and a hundred exhibitors depending on the year.

A festival that changes location every year

The principle of rotation is at the heart of the event: each edition highlights a different agricultural territory in the Île-de-France region.

  • 2024 — Sonchamp (Yvelines), 69th edition: The department's top agricultural commune with its vast cereal plains, held on land between Sonchamp and Orcemont, near Rambouillet.
  • 2025 — Égly (Essonne), 70th edition: Held on September 20th and 21st, featuring a new livestock area and a catering section run by local butchers.
  • 2026 — Attainville (Val-d'Oise), 71st edition: September 5th and 6th, on a farm track facing the Gamm Vert in Villaines-sous-Bois, in the heart of the Pays de France.

A 100% agricultural weekend

From one year to the next, the program offers a comprehensive overview of Île-de-France agriculture:

  • Local market: Tastings and direct sales from regional producers
  • Petting zoo: Meet the farm animals
  • Farm machinery demonstrations and career presentations
  • Educational workshops and environmental activities
  • Helicopter rides: Soar over the agricultural landscape
  • Games and activities for children
  • Local food provided by regional vendors

Some activities are specific to the host commune: sheepdog demonstrations, motocross, pony rides, archery, or plowing competitions, depending on the edition.

Often overlooked Île-de-France agriculture

The Yvelines, the second-largest agricultural department in Île-de-France, has 807 farms and about 2,000 jobs in the sector. The Festival de la Terre sheds light on this reality in a department often associated only with Versailles and urbanization. The Yvelines Department, a partner of the event during the Sonchamp edition, highlights its commitment to short supply chains, particularly in supplying school canteens with local products: pasta from Prunay-en-Yvelines, yogurts from Rambouillet, lentils from Beynes, and Yvelines beef.

The festival is supported by the Chambre d'agriculture d'Île-de-France and the local authorities of each host territory.

An event rooted in the rural identity of Île-de-France

The Festival de la Terre is one of the oldest agricultural events in the Île-de-France region. Created in the 1950s by the Jeunes Agriculteurs, it has spanned the decades while maintaining its original spirit: promoting farming professions, defending local agriculture, and offering the public a chance to meet those who feed the region. As Nicolas Hervin, Secretary General of the Jeunes Agriculteurs d'Île-de-France Ouest, summarizes, the Festival de la Terre aims to be "the showcase of Île-de-France agriculture."
