The big beer gathering of the back-to-school season in the Ardennes
The Fête de la Bière de Rethel is a festive and friendly event organized every year on the first weekend of September at the Halles de Rethel and on the Place du Théâtre Louis-Jouvet. For three days, over 50 draft beers are offered for tasting, accompanied by a grand Bavarian evening, concerts, DJ sets, a Celtic evening, and a fireworks display. Organized by the association Les Folies Ardennaises, this Rethel-style beer festival has become one of the highlights of the back-to-school season in the South of the Ardennes.
Every year, on the first weekend of September, the Halles de Rethel and the Place du Théâtre Louis-Jouvet are transformed into a hub of beer-related conviviality. The Fête de la Bière de Rethel, organized by the association Les Folies Ardennaises, offers a program rich in entertainment, concerts, and of course, beer tastings for three days. Over 50 draft beers from artisanal and regional breweries are available to enthusiasts and the curious, in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
Friday evening kicks off with the traditional grand Bavarian evening, where participants are invited to raise their mugs to the sound of traditional music. A DJ then takes over for a festive night. Saturday is the main day with live concerts in the afternoon and evening, musical entertainment, and a grand fireworks display that lights up the square at the end of the evening. Sunday is dedicated to Celtic music, with folk bands and a grand raffle to conclude the festivities.
The heart of the Beer Festival is, of course, the beers. The Halles de Rethel host a large tasting area where over 50 draft beers are offered: blondes, ambers, browns, whites, IPAs, stouts, fruit beers, and regional specialties. Local and artisanal breweries from the Ardennes are particularly highlighted, alongside national and European brands. Food stalls offer charcuterie specialties and traditional dishes to accompany the tastings.
The Fête de la Bière de Rethel is for all audiences, from seasoned beer lovers to curious novices. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is resolutely festive and family-friendly during the day, before ramping up in the evening. The association Les Folies Ardennaises ensures a renewed program each year, with local and regional artists animating the site from Friday to Sunday. The proximity of the Halles and the town center of Rethel makes access and parking easy.
