The grand historical and popular festival of the City of Coronations
The Fêtes Johanniques de Reims are an annual event commemorating the coronation of Charles VII on July 17, 1429, in Reims Cathedral, under the impetus of Joan of Arc. Every year in early June, the city plunges back into its medieval history with a grand procession in period costumes, a historical market, shows, entertainment, and a magnificent nocturnal parade. A popular and festive event, the Fêtes Johanniques attract tens of thousands of visitors.
The Fêtes Johanniques de Reims are one of the most emblematic events in the City of Coronations. This annual event commemorates a foundational moment in French history: the coronation of Charles VII on July 17, 1429 in Reims Cathedral, made possible by the epic of Joan of Arc.
Celebrated for decades, the Fêtes Johanniques underwent a major revival in 2022, with a new, more ambitious, and spectacular format. The event takes place every year on the last weekend of May or the first weekend of June, transforming the city center of Reims into a vast open-air historical stage.
In 2025, the Fêtes Johanniques were renamed "Reims, The Legendary Epic" to celebrate the bicentennial of the last royal coronation in France: that of Charles X, crowned in Reims on May 28, 1825. The event thus staged two eras and two historical figures: Joan of Arc accompanying Charles VII, and Charles X with his court, creating a dialogue between centuries around the theme of coronation.
The Fêtes Johanniques offer a two-day program that includes:
