The grand fair of champagne and gastronomy of Bar-sur-Aube
The Foire Bulles & Gastronomie of Bar-sur-Aube is one of the oldest and most popular events in the Aube region, with nearly 70 editions to its name. Organized every year in September by the City of Bar-sur-Aube, this historic fair brings together over 150 exhibitors - artisans, merchants, and local producers - on Place Carnot and in the streets of the city center. Its jewel is the Champagne Village set up under the historic market halls, where five Bar-sur-Aube winegrowers showcase the different terroirs of Champagne from the Côte des Bar. Street entertainment, dancing evenings, food trucks, and a festive atmosphere complete this popular event that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
With its 69th edition in 2025, the Foire Bulles & Gastronomie in Bar-sur-Aube is part of a tradition dating back to the 1950s. Initially known as the Foire aux Bulles, this popular event has reinvented itself over the decades to become a must-attend event for the back-to-school season in the Aube region. In 2017, the municipality gave new momentum to the event by creating the Champagne Village under the market halls and renaming the event "Foire Bulles & Gastronomie," thus marking the desire to highlight both the champagne bubbles and the gastronomic heritage of the territory.
The highlight of the fair is undoubtedly the Champagne Village, located under the historic market halls of Bar-sur-Aube, an architectural gem in the city center. Five Bar-sur-Aube winegrowers - Champagne Cottanceau-Prignitz, Mennetrier, D. Billette, Geoffroy, and Barbieux - represent the different terroirs of the Côte des Bar. Visitors can taste and compare the vintages, discuss their know-how with the winegrowers, and discover the richness of the southern Champagne vineyards. This village is an exceptional showcase for the Champagne appellation and contributes to the wine tourism appeal of Bar-sur-Aube.
Beyond champagne, the fair brings together over 150 exhibitors each year on Place Carnot and in the adjacent streets: artisans, merchants, local producers, gastronomy stands, and regional products. The free stalls, provided by the town hall, offer a diverse and attractive range. Street entertainment punctuates the afternoons with musical groups, including Celtic and folk bands, while food trucks and refreshment stands offer a variety of food. Saturday evening features a dancing evening with a DJ, transforming the city center into an open-air dance floor.
The Foire Bulles & Gastronomie embodies the spirit of conviviality and sharing dear to the inhabitants of Bar-sur-Aube. Free and open to all, it is a major event in local life, where families, friends, and visitors gather in a warm atmosphere. The event also contributes to the local economy by attracting thousands of visitors to the small Champagne town and offering valuable visibility to local producers and artisans. The fair is now one of the most anticipated events on the Aube calendar.
