Great agricultural and craft fair of the Perche
The Foire de Nogent-le-Rotrou is one of the most important commercial events in the Perche region of Eure-et-Loir. This large agricultural and craft fair brings together hundreds of exhibitors each year – farmers, breeders, artisans, and local producers – in the streets of this historic sub-prefecture. A showcase of the Perche's rural economy, it highlights Percheron horses, local products, and craftsmanship. An unmissable popular and family gathering.
Nogent-le-Rotrou, a sub-prefecture of Eure-et-Loir and the historic capital of Perche, hosts its grand agricultural and craft fair each year, an event deeply rooted in the commercial tradition of this hilly, hedgerow-filled region. An heir to the medieval fairs that brought prosperity to the town, this event continues to bring together farmers, artisans, and visitors around the riches of the Perche region.
The Foire de Nogent-le-Rotrou brings together several hundred exhibitors spread throughout the streets and squares of the town. Breeders present their finest animals, with a place of honor reserved for the Percheron horse, an emblematic breed of the territory recognized worldwide for its power and elegance. Farmers exhibit the fruits of their labor, while artisans – cabinetmakers, tinsmiths, potters, cutlers – demonstrate their skills.
The Perche region's terroir is celebrated with a vast market of local products: ciders and perries, farm cheeses, traditional cured meats, honey, jams, Perche black pudding, and artisanal pâtés and rillettes. Producers offer tastings and direct sales, allowing visitors to discover the gastronomic richness of this territory located between Beauce, Maine, and Normandy.
Beyond its commercial aspect, the fair is also a time for camaraderie and reunion for the people of the Perche. Musical entertainment, agricultural demonstrations, animal competitions, and rides for children punctuate the day. The streets of Nogent-le-Rotrou, dominated by the majestic Château Saint-Jean perched on its rocky outcrop, take on a festive atmosphere reminiscent of the great fairs of yesteryear.
The fair is an opportunity to discover the remarkable heritage of Nogent-le-Rotrou: the Château Saint-Jean of the Counts of Perche, the crypt of the Saint-Hilaire church, the Renaissance houses on Rue Bourg-le-Comte, the Hôtel-Dieu, and the tomb of the Duke of Sully. This architectural richness makes Nogent-le-Rotrou a major cultural stop in the Perche region of Eure-et-Loir, labeled a "Petite Cité de Caractère" (Small Town of Character).
