Haute-Vienne en Scènes: Culture for All in Every Corner of the Department
Haute-Vienne en Scènes is the cultural label of the Departmental Council of Haute-Vienne, which brings together all the artistic programming supported by the Department. Each season, from September to June, a rich and diverse program is offered in two emblematic venues in Limoges — Espace Noriac and La Visitation — as well as in the rural communes of the territory through the itinerant festival La Culture au Grand Jour.
Espace Noriac and La Visitation: Two Cultural Jewels in Limoges
Espace Noriac, a late 19th-century property comprising an old chapel and a Jesuit crypt, was acquired by the Department in 1989. It hosts numerous artistic or cultural associations each year: theater, music, conferences, dance, cinema, exhibitions by visual artists and photographers. La Visitation, a building listed as a historic monument reopened to the public in 2016 after renovation, offers a modular capacity of 110 seats and complements the programming with theater, music, cinema, and exhibitions.
La Culture au Grand Jour: 36 Years of Free Performances in Rural Areas
A highlight of the Haute-Vienne en Scènes season, La Culture au Grand Jour is an itinerant festival that has returned each spring since 1991. For two weeks, about forty free performances are offered in approximately 40 rural communes in the department, renewed each year and chosen from those that do not have regular cultural programming. The Department's ambition is to bring culture closer to the inhabitants of towns and villages, while promoting the richness of local and regional artistic creation.
A Multidisciplinary Program Open to All
The Haute-Vienne en Scènes program encompasses all performing arts disciplines: theater, dance, music from here and elsewhere (French chanson, contemporary music, classical, traditional), comedy, storytelling, and unexpected formats. Many offerings are specifically designed for young audiences, making this season an unmissable family event. Registration for performances at Espace Noriac and La Visitation is done online, while La Culture au Grand Jour is free and open access, with no reservation required.
A Departmental Commitment to Access to Culture
By supporting Haute-Vienne en Scènes, the Departmental Council of Haute-Vienne affirms its commitment to democratizing access to culture throughout its territory. This ambitious cultural policy supports local artists, revitalizes rural communes, and builds social connections around performing arts. Tens of thousands of spectators benefit each year from this programming, making Haute-Vienne a model department for cultural outreach in rural areas.
