Hip Hop en Avignon — edition 2026
2026 Edition — Hip Hop en Avignon, End of April 2026
Hip Hop en Avignon 2026 will take place on April 24, 25, and 26, 2026, in the streets, squares, and cultural spaces of the City of the Popes. For this new edition, the festival continues its exploration of the dialogue between urban cultures and Avignon's exceptional heritage.
Battles, Concerts, Graffiti, and DJs
The 2026 program will once again bring together the four pillars of hip hop: dance battles (breaking, popping, locking, new style), rap and hip hop music concerts, DJ sessions, and live street art creations. National and international artists will be invited alongside local talents, in the spirit of openness and diversity that has characterized the festival since its inception.
The outdoor stages at Place de l'Horloge and in the popular neighborhoods will be free to access, while major international battles and indoor concerts will require a ticket. The full program will be announced in the spring of 2026.
Educational Activities and Free Workshops
As every year, introductory workshops on hip hop disciplines will be offered in schools and youth centers in Vaucluse, both before and during the festival. These outreach activities, led by guest artists, are at the heart of the festival's educational and social mission.
Hip Hop en Avignon 2026 thus confirms its role as a popular and demanding festival, rooted in the realities of its territory and open to the world of contemporary urban cultures.

Hip Hop en Avignon: Urban Cultures at the Heart of the City of the Popes
Since its creation, Hip Hop en Avignon has established itself as the unmissable event for hip hop cultures in Vaucluse and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Supported by a passionate local association and the City of Avignon, the festival offers a demanding and open program every spring, celebrating the multiple disciplines of hip hop in one of France's most spectacular heritage settings.
The festival's founding intuition is that of a meeting: to create a dialogue between the vitality of urban cultures—born in neighborhoods, recording studios, and city streets—and the historical depth of Avignon, its ramparts, squares, and medieval monuments. This unexpected encounter generates a unique energy that surprises and brings together audiences from very different backgrounds.
Four Pillars of Hip Hop United
The festival embraces the four founding disciplines of hip hop culture, along with contemporary forms that extend its legacy:
- Dance: Breaking, popping, locking, new style, and choreographed hip hop battles. International competitions and showcases by professional companies coexist with introductory sessions for beginners.
- Music: Rap, R&B, soul, and trap concerts featuring established artists and emerging talents from the French and international scene. Outdoor stages allow thousands of spectators to enjoy performances in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
- DJing: DJ sets throughout the festival, with turntables at the heart of Avignon's squares and historic courtyards. DJing is honored through battles and dedicated evenings.
- Graffiti and Visual Arts: Street art artists are invited to create live murals on walls and provided surfaces, transforming public spaces into ephemeral, colorful galleries.
A Festival Open to the City
Hip Hop en Avignon stands out for its commitment to using public spaces and making the festival accessible to everyone. While some concerts and battles require a ticket, a large part of the program is free and available in the streets, squares, and parks of Avignon.
Ephemeral stages are set up in unusual locations: under the ramparts, in popular neighborhoods, on the Rhône river, and in the courtyards of high schools and middle schools. This diffusion throughout the urban space is at the core of the festival''s identity, which believes that hip hop belongs to everyone and should not be insular.
A Festival Committed to Youth
Since its inception, Hip Hop en Avignon has developed an educational program in schools and youth centers in Vaucluse. Workshops led by guest artists—introducing breaking, rap, graffiti, and beatbox—allow thousands of young people to practice and express themselves in these disciplines.
These interventions aim to promote artistic practices that have long been overlooked or stigmatized, to strengthen young people's confidence in their creative abilities, and to build bridges between the festival and the residents of Avignon's popular neighborhoods. The festival works closely with neighborhood centers, local associations, and municipal services of the City of Avignon to create a program rooted in the social and cultural realities of the territory.
The Hip Hop Scene in Provence
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region boasts a vibrant and recognized hip hop scene, with Avignon as one of its essential crossroads. The festival plays a crucial role in the visibility of this local scene: many artists from Avignon and Vaucluse have honed their skills there before gaining recognition on national and international stages.
Hip Hop en Avignon is also a place for professional networking: programmers, bookers, artistic directors, journalists, and specialized media meet emerging artists and established companies, making the festival a recognized springboard for careers.
Heritage and Urban Cultures in Dialogue
The encounter between hip hop and Avignon's heritage is the very foundation of the festival. Avignon, with its UNESCO World Heritage Palais des Papes, its medieval ramparts, and its long festival tradition, offers a unique setting for urban cultures. This encounter is not merely decorative; it questions cultural identities, aesthetic hierarchies, and the relationship of younger generations to their history and territory.
Since its first edition, Hip Hop en Avignon has affirmed that urban cultures have a place in all cities, even those steeped in history, and that dialogue between art forms—ancient and contemporary, legitimate and popular—is a source of mutual enrichment.
