Literary francophonie celebrating by the lake of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax
The International Festival of Francophone Authors is a literary and cultural event organized by the association Rencontre des Auteurs Francophones in partnership with the city of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax. Born in New York and having traveled to Miami and Brussels, this festival celebrates the French language through signings, readings, writing workshops, artistic and societal conferences, and meetings with about fifty authors from across the francophonie. The enchanting setting of the Christus lake hosts three days of free literary festivities open to all.
The International Festival of Francophone Authors is an event of international literary scope that has set up its tents in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax since 2024. Organized by the association Rencontre des Auteurs Francophones, this traveling festival was previously hosted in New York, Miami, and Brussels, before choosing the enchanting setting of the Christus lake in the Landes for its French edition.
The festival brings together about fifty authors from across the francophonie: novelists, poets, essayists, youth authors, and cultural creators who defend the French language in their respective countries. For three days, the public can meet these authors during signing sessions, public readings, and intimate encounters by the lake.
Beyond literary encounters, the festival offers a rich program: small-group writing workshops at the Maison de Pierre Benoit, artistic and societal conferences on stage with an interactive dimension, artistic and musical readings mixing texts and music, a pop-up café by the lake with gastronomic and wine-tasting activities, as well as a bookstore area offering a wide selection of works by the authors present.
The festival traditionally begins with a youth day reserved for classes from Saint-Paul-lès-Dax schools. The authors present offer a multitude of literary and creative workshops to the youngest, encouraging the discovery of the pleasure of reading and writing from an early age.
The festival takes place by the magnificent Christus lake, a green setting in the heart of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax. Authors and cultural producers set up around the lake, creating a friendly and relaxed atmosphere conducive to exchanges and literary discoveries in a preserved natural setting.
The festival takes place every year in early June over three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Friday is traditionally reserved for schoolchildren.
Activities are held by the Christus lake, in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax. Writing workshops take place at the Maison de Pierre Benoit, near the lake.
Entry to the festival is completely free. Access to all activities, signings, conferences, and workshops is free and without reservation.
The Christus lake is located in the heart of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, easily accessible by car from the A63 motorway (Dax exit). Free parking is available near the lake.
A pop-up café is set up by the lake for the duration of the festival, offering gastronomic and wine-tasting activities with local products.
A bookstore area is set up on the festival site, allowing the public to purchase works by the authors present and have them signed.
