The young audience festival of Équinoxe, Scène Nationale de Châteauroux
L'Argent de Poche is the young audience festival organized every February by Équinoxe, Scène Nationale de Châteauroux. During the winter holidays, this family event offers a rich program combining cinema, live performances, creative workshops, and activities for young audiences. With screenings at Cinéma Apollo, shows at Équinoxe, meetings, and workshops, the festival offers children and their families two weeks of accessible and festive cultural discoveries.
Every year in February, during the winter school holidays, Équinoxe, Scène Nationale de Châteauroux, organizes L'Argent de Poche, a festival dedicated to the young audience. Created in 2019, this cultural event has become, in just a few editions, an anticipated moment for families in Châteauroux and the surrounding areas, offering an eclectic and accessible program that combines cinema, live performance, and creative workshops.
The Cinéma Apollo, an art-house cinema integrated into Équinoxe, is at the heart of the festival's program. Each edition offers a selection of films specially chosen for young audiences, mixing cinema classics, animated films, documentaries, and previews. Thematic special screenings, cine-concerts, and screenings accompanied by discussions with film professionals enrich the cinematic experience for young viewers.
Beyond cinema, L'Argent de Poche features live performances suitable for children: theater, puppetry, music, dance, and storytelling come to life on the stages of Équinoxe. Creative workshops allow children to explore different artistic practices, from mask making to scriptwriting, including sound design and puppet manipulation. These participatory activities encourage the creativity and expression of the youngest.
The festival punctuates its two weeks with highlights that leave a lasting impression. Previous editions have notably included Mardi Gras (Shrove Tuesday) screenings with crepe distribution, screenings of cult films in cine-concerts with live musicians and narrators, and birthday celebrations in the theater for children born during the festival period. These moments of conviviality and sharing make L'Argent de Poche much more than just a holiday program.
True to Équinoxe's mission of cultural democratization, L'Argent de Poche strives to remain accessible to as many people as possible. Adapted prices, ticket promotions, and a program designed for all ages allow families to fully enjoy this winter cultural break. The festival is aimed at children of all ages, but also at the adults who accompany them, because young audience culture has no age limit.
