A medieval festival in the park of the Château de Celon

La Médiévale de Celon takes place every year at the beginning of September in the magnificent park of the Château de Celon, located in Celon (36200) in the Indre department, on the border of Cher. This 15th-century castle, former residence of the Céris family, offers an exceptional historical setting for this medieval festival which attracts several thousand visitors from all over the Centre-Val de Loire region. The event, organized over a full weekend, offers total immersion in the medieval world with historical reenactments, period crafts, and live shows.

A large medieval market with over 100 exhibitors

The heart of La Médiévale de Celon is its craft market which brings together over 110 exhibitors: ceramicists, wood sculptors, blacksmiths, leatherworkers, weavers, illuminators, medieval jewelry makers, soap makers, and costume designers. Visitors can wander among the colorful stalls, discover ancestral know-how, and acquire unique handmade pieces. The artisans, dressed in period costumes, work in front of the public and share their passion for medieval techniques, creating an authentic and educational atmosphere.

Medieval encampments and warrior demonstrations

Five medieval companies set up their encampments in the castle park, faithfully recreating daily life in the Middle Ages: medieval tents, hearths, leatherworking workshops, open-air blacksmithing. Members of these companies, passionate about living history, offer continuous demonstrations: knight combat in armor, foot jousting, medieval weapon handling (swords, axes, maces), archery, and axe throwing. Children can try their hand at these disciplines under the supervision of the knights, thus discovering medieval martial arts in a safe and fun setting.

Equestrian shows and magical entertainment

La Médiévale de Celon offers high-quality shows throughout the weekend: equestrian demonstrations with caparisoned horses, stunt and mounted jousting exhibitions, a fire show on Saturday evening (fire-eaters, torch jugglers, pyrotechnic effects), and entertainment with the mysterious "Lady of the Wolves" who presents her tamed wolves in a fascinating act combining training and medieval storytelling. Performers, jugglers, troubadours, and storytellers wander through the aisles, creating a festive and enchanted atmosphere.

Medieval catering and convivial taverns

The medieval immersion continues on the plate with over 15 catering stands offering period culinary specialties: grilled wild boar legs, spit-roasted hams, medieval tarts, honey crepes, gingerbread, mead, and ale. Three taverns set up in the park allow visitors to eat and drink in a friendly and authentic atmosphere, with wooden benches, barrels, and medieval decor. The event offers a complete experience for the whole family, combining historical discovery, quality crafts, and spectacular entertainment. An entrance fee of 5 euros for both days allows access to all activities.
