The legendary closing lunch of the Trois Glorieuses de Bourgogne at the Château de Meursault
La Paulée de Meursault is the traditional closing lunch of the grape harvest, celebrated on the third Monday of November at the Château de Meursault. The last of the Trois Glorieuses de Bourgogne, this festival brings together around 700 guests — winegrowers, merchants, and enthusiasts — for a gastronomic meal where everyone brings their best bottles. Since 1923, La Paulée has perpetuated the spirit of sharing and generosity that characterizes the wine-growing region of Burgundy.
La Paulée de Meursault is a festive lunch that concludes the grape harvest season in Burgundy. The term "paulée" traditionally refers to the end-of-harvest meal offered by the estate owner to their harvesters. Since 1923, the commune of Meursault has institutionalized this tradition by organizing a grand lunch each year bringing together the village's winegrowers and their guests.
La Paulée de Meursault is the third and final part of the Trois Glorieuses de Bourgogne, the most prestigious wine weekend in the region. On Saturday, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin holds a chapter at the Château du Clos de Vougeot. On Sunday, the famous Hospices de Beaune auction is in full swing. On Monday, La Paulée de Meursault concludes the festivities in a joyful and relaxed atmosphere.
What makes La Paulée unique is the tradition of sharing bottles. Each guest — winegrower, merchant, or invitee — brings their finest bottles to share at the table. The gastronomic lunch takes place in the majestic cuverie of the Château de Meursault, where around 700 people gather for a meal that can last several hours. A literary prize, the Prix de la Paulée, also rewards a work related to wine and Burgundy.
The fame of La Paulée has spread far beyond the borders of Burgundy. International editions are now organized in New York, San Francisco, and London, exporting the spirit of Burgundian conviviality to the world's major metropolises. However, the original La Paulée de Meursault remains the most authentic and coveted among Burgundy wine lovers.
