Festival of storytelling and spoken arts in the Pays de Quimperlé
Le Grand Baratin is a festival of storytelling and spoken arts that unfolds every autumn in Locunolé and the Pays de Quimperlé, in the south of Finistère. Organized by the association 10QT, this itinerant event has been celebrating the richness of oral tradition since 2019 through storytelling shows, life stories, and narrative performances by professional artists.
The strength of Le Grand Baratin lies in its eclectic programming that fosters dialogue between the narrative traditions of the world. From tales drawn from the oral traditions of Venezuela to Africa and Brittany, the festival takes its audience on a journey across continents and imaginations. Stories from tradition, tales inspired by mythology, contemporary creations, and powerful words exploring the human condition make up a rich and varied program.
Le Grand Baratin stands out for its commitment to gender parity in its artistic programming. This commitment, claimed since the first editions, makes the festival an exemplary player in equality in the cultural sector. The other pillar of accessibility is the complete freeness of all shows, opening the art of storytelling to the widest possible audience.
One of the festival's unique features is the offering of "Apartés", moments of exclusive encounters between the audience and invited artists. These informal exchanges, held on the sidelines of the shows, allow for an extension of the narrative experience and deepen the dialogue between storytellers and listeners in a warm and intimate atmosphere.
Le Grand Baratin adopts an itinerant format that takes over different towns in the Pays de Quimperlé throughout its editions. The Espace des Moulins in Locunolé is the heart of the festival, but shows are also held in other locations in the region: municipal halls, media libraries, cafes, and public spaces. This itinerant approach allows the art of storytelling to be brought closer to the inhabitants and to build lasting links with local communities.
Beyond the shows, the festival offers a caravan-library, a pop-up bookstore, and a friendly catering area. Visitors can also bring their own picnic and enjoy the green setting of Locunolé. Each edition of Le Grand Baratin is thus an invitation to travel through words, in a spirit of sharing, curiosity, and typically Breton conviviality.
The seventh edition of Le Grand Baratin is expected in autumn 2026 in the Pays de Quimperlé. The exact dates and artistic program will be announced during the year.
