The solidarity reggae and dub festival in the heart of the millennial abbey of Cluny
In 2006, a group of students from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) de Cluny decided to create a music festival to fund the humanitarian projects of the GaSole (Gadz'Arts Solidaires) association. The idea was audacious: to organize a reggae and dub event in the exceptional setting of Cluny Abbey, a jewel of Romanesque heritage classified as a historical monument. Nearly twenty years later, Le Grand Bastringue has become an unmissable event in the Burgundian musical landscape, attracting more than 8,000 festival-goers each year.
The festival unfolds in the park of Cluny Abbey, a classified site where the largest church in Christendom once stood before the construction of St. Peter's in Rome. This exceptional heritage setting gives Le Grand Bastringue a unique atmosphere: the vibrations of dub and reggae resonate among the medieval remains, creating a striking contrast between ancient heritage and sound system culture. The main stage, set up facing the abbey towers, offers a visual spectacle as striking as it is musical.
Le Grand Bastringue champions a program resolutely focused on Jamaican music and its electronic derivatives in all their diversity: reggae roots, dub, dancehall, ska, world music, but also incursions into hip-hop and electronic music. The festival brings artists from all over France and beyond, mixing recognized headliners — Taïro, Dub Inc, Danakil, Naâman, Marcus Gad, La Yegros — and promising discoveries. Sound systems and DJ sets extend the festive atmosphere late into the night.
Since its 8th edition in 2014, the festival has expanded to two days (Friday and Saturday), after a year-long break that allowed the team to rethink the format. Le Petit Bastringue, a companion event organized beforehand, complements the program and contributes to the association's outreach.
What distinguishes Le Grand Bastringue from many festivals is its solidarity vocation. Profits are entirely donated to the GaSole association to fund volunteer missions in the world's most disadvantaged regions. Construction of schools, access to drinking water, educational support: every ticket purchased contributes to a concrete project. This humanitarian dimension, carried by the Gadzarts student community, makes the festival much more than a simple musical event: it is an act of collective solidarity.
18th edition of the Grand Bastringue on June 12th and 13th, 2026 in the park of Cluny Abbey. The solidarity reggae, dub, and sound system festival of Southern Burgundy returns for a weekend of Jamaican music and bass cultures at the heart of Cluniac heritage, featuring La Yegros, Marcus Gad, Zentone, Charlie P Live Band, Atili vs Esaïa, Youthie, and numerous sound systems. Tickets sold out in less than an hour upon opening.
The Grand Bastringue returns on Friday, June 12th and Saturday, June 13th, 2026 for its 18th edition in the exceptional setting of the Cluny Abbey park. The solidarity festival continues to proudly showcase reggae, dub, and sound system culture in Southern Burgundy, benefiting the humanitarian projects of the GaSole association. An eclectic lineup blends international headliners (La Yegros, Marcus Gad), French dub masters (Zentone, Ashkabad x Mahom x Ondubground, Charlie P), and renowned selectas (Acrewbate, Chaka Chaka).
The enthusiasm for this edition was such that tickets sold out in less than an hour upon opening — a testament to the public's loyalty to this solidarity event, which has become an unmissable fixture on the French reggae scene.
