The blues in all its glory in the heart of maritime Picardy
Les Nuits du Blues d'Abbeville is one of the unmissable blues events in France. Every year in March, the Théâtre Municipal and the Espace Culturel Saint-André host North American blues, British blues rock, and French blues artists for a week in a demanding and eclectic program. Since 1995, this festival in the Somme has built a loyal following of passionate fans and attracted internationally renowned musicians, making Abbeville a major stop on the French blues circuit.
Created in 1995, Les Nuits du Blues d'Abbeville was born from the passion of a handful of blues lovers who wanted to make this music resonate in the heart of maritime Picardy. In thirty years of existence, the festival has grown and established itself as one of the most respected blues events in northern France, attracting artists from the United States, Great Britain, and all over Europe each year.
The strength of Les Nuits du Blues lies in its ability to offer a complete panorama of this music born in the Mississippi Delta. From traditional blues to blues rock, from Chicago blues to contemporary blues, including gospel and rhythm and blues, each edition crafts a musical journey that delights purists and newcomers alike. The concerts take place at the Théâtre Municipal d'Abbeville, an intimate Italian-style theater with remarkable acoustics, as well as at the Espace Culturel Saint-André, a multidisciplinary venue in the heart of the city.
Over the years, Les Nuits du Blues has hosted prestigious names in international blues. The programming skillfully blends world-renowned headliners with emerging artists, ensuring intense musical evenings. Legends such as Dr. Feelgood, Nine Below Zero, Toronzo Cannon, Shakura S'Aida, Thorbjørn Risager, Jean-Jacques Milteau, and Dirty Deep have graced the Abbeville stages, perpetuating the festival's tradition of excellence.
Organized by Scènes d'Abbeville with the support of the Communauté d'Agglomération Baie de Somme, Les Nuits du Blues actively contributes to the cultural influence of Abbeville and maritime Picardy. The festival helps animate the city during winter, attracting a loyal audience from all over the Hauts-de-France region and beyond. The blues evenings are also an opportunity to discover Abbeville's remarkable heritage—its Saint-Vulfran collegiate church, its belfry, and its medieval streets—in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
