Classical and jazz music festival in the private estate of Château de la Moutte in Saint-Tropez
Founded in 1975 by Anne Troisier, granddaughter of Émile Ollivier — the last Prime Minister of the Second Empire under Napoleon III — and grand-niece of Franz Liszt by marriage, Les Nuits du Château de la Moutte is undoubtedly the most romantic and exclusive classical music festival on the French Riviera.
For fifty years, this festival has successfully combined top-tier artistic ambition with an intimate, family atmosphere, true to its founder's spirit: "to bring the beauty of music to life in contact with nature and the Mediterranean Sea." Le Monde has spoken of its "nocturnal serenity," and Vogue has celebrated an "impressive setting for prestigious programming."
The Château de la Moutte, a private estate located away from the village of Saint-Tropez, on the verdant peninsula separating the Gulf of Saint-Tropez from the Bay of Canebiers, is one of the most preserved and beautiful sites on the French Riviera. Surrounded by a forest of umbrella pines and cork oaks, it offers breathtaking views of the sea and the Golden Isles.
Concerts take place in various areas of the estate: the château courtyard, the century-old palm grove, and the Canebiers beach, creating a diversity of settings that enhance each type of program. At night, the stars reflect on the sea as the notes of Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, or Miles Davis drift through the warm Provençal summer air.
Over the decades, Les Nuits de la Moutte has hosted the greatest names in world classical music: Arthur Rubinstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, Renaud Capuçon, Hélène Grimaud, Martha Argerich, and many others. The festival has also opened its doors to jazz with artists such as Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock.
This tradition of excellence continues in 2025, with a program featuring American pianist Brad Mehldau (July 28), the legendary Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev (August 3), French pianist Lucas Debargue (August 7), composer and improviser Karol Beffa (August 9), Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orlinski (August 11), and sopranos Nadine Sierra and Micheal Fabiano for the operatic closing (August 13).
While the festival has long catered to a discerning audience of music lovers, it has progressively expanded its offerings to reach families and younger audiences. Musical shows for children (August 4-5), musical awakening workshops (August 9 and 11), and musical tales (August 9) complement the evening program, making Les Nuits de la Moutte a family festival as well as a rendezvous for connoisseurs.
A food truck offering sweet and savory food is available in the estate's lounge area, and security measures — entrance checks, bag searches — ensure the tranquility of the evenings in this private domain.
Fifty editions represent an exceptional musical history, woven from unlikely encounters between artists from around the world and a loyal audience from all over France and abroad. Les Nuits du la Moutte embodies the noblest aspects of culture: shared beauty, collective emotion, and human genius celebrated in a place and moment that will never be repeated.
The 51st edition of Les Nuits du Château de la Moutte will take place from August 1st to 11th, 2026, in the private domain of Château de la Moutte, in Saint-Tropez. Under the new artistic direction of cellist Gautier Capuçon, this edition brings together leading artists — Lisa Batiashvili, Pretty Yende, Yuja Wang, the Modigliani Quartet alongside Guillaume Gallienne — for nocturnal concerts facing the sea, between the castle courtyard, a century-old palm grove, and Canebiers beach.
After the 50th anniversary jubilee celebrated in 2025, Les Nuits du Château de la Moutte approaches its 51st edition with a major new development: cellist Gautier Capuçon takes over as artistic director. The concerts are held in the emblematic spaces of the private domain — the castle courtyard renowned for its acoustics, the century-old palm grove, and the mythical Canebiers beach.
Among the artists announced for 2026: violinist Lisa Batiashvili, oboist François Leleux accompanied by the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Toulon, the Modigliani Quartet alongside actor Guillaume Gallienne, South African soprano Pretty Yende, and pianist Yuja Wang, who will give a “moonlight” concert on Canebiers beach. A surprise evening is also planned in the heart of Saint-Tropez.
The festival extends its outreach to families and young audiences with musical tales, children's shows, a music and cinema evening, and parent-child workshops.
The detailed day-by-day program is gradually unveiled on the official website. Ticket sales open on June 8th, 2026 on the official website and via Mapado.
