Traveling music festival in the heritage of Pays d'Auge
Created in 1995 by Christine Van Daele, the Promenades Musicales du Pays d'Auge have developed a strong identity over thirty years, centered on musical excellence and eclecticism. Since 2015, the festival has been directed by Véronique Pleintel, who continues this tradition of musical itinerancy in the heart of Normandy's heritage. Each edition offers a series of nomadic concerts from mid-July to early August, in locations representative of the cultural heritage of Pays d'Auge.
The originality of PMPA lies in its traveling nature. Concerts take place in 13 different historic locations in Calvados: Romanesque and Gothic churches, castles, stud farms, and even historic industrial sites. Each 'promenade' is an invitation to discover the natural and architectural heritage of Pays d'Auge through music, in an intimate and friendly atmosphere.
The PMPA program covers a very wide musical spectrum: early music, baroque music, classical music, contemporary creation, world music, French song, and jazz. The festival sometimes enriches its concerts with dance, literature, poetry, and cinema, creating unique and immersive artistic experiences.
PMPA also offers 'Petites Promenades' (Little Walks), concerts specially designed for young audiences, such as the musical show 'L'histoire de Babar, le petit éléphant'. The festival cultivates conviviality: each 'promenade' is an opportunity for encounters between artists and the public, in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The 32nd edition of Les Promenades Musicales du Pays d'Auge will take place from July 22 to August 2, 2026. Over twelve days, this itinerant festival presents around sixty concerts and events in 24 communes of Pays d'Auge and Côte Fleurie, at the heart of heritage sites: castles, churches, stud farms, ports, markets, and typical villages. The program, ranging from early music to jazz, including baroque, classical, and world music, features Sandrine Piau, Le Poème Harmonique, Ensemble Correspondances, Jean Rondeau, and Richard Bona.
From July 22 to August 2, 2026, the festival offers around sixty concerts and events spread over twelve days and 24 communes in Pays d'Auge and Côte Fleurie. True to its itinerant spirit, it takes over various heritage sites (castles, churches, stud farms, ports, markets, villages) and combines concerts, "little musical strolls," "unexpected" free-access events, and meetings with artists.
The program embraces all genres, from medieval music to jazz: early music, baroque, classical, contemporary creations, song, and world music. Highlights include: the fanfare opening with Nørthmen Brass, soprano Sandrine Piau accompanied by Quatuor Psophos performing Schubert, Ensemble Correspondances, Le Poème Harmonique in «Le Coup de Majesté», harpsichordists Jean Rondeau and the Graindelavoix ensemble, pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, and bassist Richard Bona for the closing concert.
