The Régates Impériales in Ajaccio

The Régates Impériales was a classic yachting event in the Gulf of Ajaccio, in Corse-du-Sud. Born from an initiative of sea and traditional sailing enthusiasts, over the years they had gained international renown, marking the launch of the Mediterranean season for classic rig regattas each spring.

A Maritime Heritage Event

Departing from the quai d'honneur of Port Tino Rossi, the event welcomed splendid vintage and traditional sailboats — gaff and Marconi yachts — in the exceptional setting of the Gulf of Ajaccio, between the citadel and the Sanguinaires Islands. It highlighted the city's maritime heritage and contributed to its tourist appeal in spring.

The End of an Adventure

Faced with a very busy Mediterranean calendar (between the Calanques Classique in Marseille and the Panéraï regatta in Antibes) and a geographical distance penalizing for continental competitors, the 2016 edition was cancelled due to lack of participants. Despite the volunteers' desire to bounce back, no new edition has been organized since. Traditional sailing enthusiasts can turn to other Corsican classic rig events organized in the Gulf of Ajaccio.
