Medieval animations in a historic castle
The Medieval Animations at the Château de Turenne take place during the summer within the walls of the Château de Turenne, a medieval fortress overlooking the village from its rocky spur. These historical animation days are offered by the association Historia Aquitanorum, specializing in medieval reenactment. Visitors can discover life in the Middle Ages through demonstrations, workshops, and guided tours, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Combat demonstrations and medieval daily life
The animations feature sword and lance combat demonstrations, presentations of armor and military equipment, as well as reenactments of daily life in the Middle Ages (cooking, crafts, costumes). Members of the association Historia Aquitanorum, dressed as knights, soldiers, and artisans, share their knowledge with the public and answer questions. These animations allow visitors, especially families and children, to discover medieval history in a lively and interactive way.
The Château de Turenne, symbol of feudal power
The Château de Turenne is one of the major historical sites in Corrèze. Former residence of the viscounty of Turenne, one of the most powerful feudal lordships in France, the castle overlooks the village and offers an exceptional panorama of the surrounding countryside. The remains of the castle (towers, ramparts, vaulted halls) bear witness to the past power of the viscounty. The medieval animations bring this heritage to life and introduce its history to visitors.
Tribute to Marshal Turenne
The medieval animations at the Château de Turenne also pay tribute to Marshal Turenne (1611-1675), one of the greatest French military strategists, from the family of the viscounts of Turenne. On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of his death, the castle is organizing special events celebrating his work and legacy. These animations are part of an effort to promote the historical and military heritage of Turenne, contributing to the cultural and tourist appeal of the village.
