Festive and gastronomic evenings in the medieval atmosphere of one of France's oldest fortresses
The Medieval Banquets of the Fortress of Montbazon offer unforgettable evenings in the heart of one of France's oldest medieval fortresses. Three times a year, from May to August, the 11th-century fortress opens its doors for a banquet in period costume accompanied by musicians, storytellers, magicians, and troubadours. The all-inclusive full meal includes an aperitif, starter, main course, dessert, and wine, all in a festive and friendly medieval atmosphere. The reservation includes access to the fortress in the afternoon to enjoy the site's permanent activities.
The Fortress of Montbazon, built by Foulques Nerra at the beginning of the 11th century, is one of the oldest stone keeps in France. Several times a year, this exceptional monument hosts its Medieval Banquets, festive evenings that transport guests to the heart of the Middle Ages for a unique gastronomic and cultural experience in Touraine.
From 8 PM to midnight, guests take their seats for a complete all-inclusive meal: medieval aperitif, starter, hearty main course, dessert, and unlimited wine. The dishes are inspired by medieval cuisine and prepared with local produce from Touraine. Guests are invited to come in costume to fully immerse themselves in the period atmosphere, although it is not mandatory.
The banquet is accompanied by a varied entertainment program. Medieval musicians, storytellers, jugglers, magicians, and troubadours provide entertainment throughout the evening, creating a festive and friendly atmosphere. Demonstrations of medieval skills and theatrical interludes punctuate the meal, while a torchlit tour of the fortress offers a spectacular moment in the night.
Each banquet reservation includes access to the Fortress in the afternoon to enjoy the many permanent activities on the site: trebuchet shooting workshops, medieval weapon demonstrations, discovery of 11th-century construction techniques, historical tour, and panoramic views of the Indre valley from the top of the keep.
Perched on its rocky outcrop overlooking the Indre valley, the Fortress of Montbazon is a major heritage site in Touraine, located just 15 minutes from Tours. Foulques Nerra's square keep, the ramparts, and the gardens offer a magnificent setting for these exceptional evenings that combine gastronomy, live entertainment, and historical heritage.
