The revival of the Motte-Forte
The Medieval Festival of Arnay-le-Duc is organized by the Arnay-le-Duc town hall in connection with the reopening of the Tour de la Motte-Forte, an emblematic monument of the town, closed to the public for over ten years. This medieval weekend invites visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, in the heart of a historic town where the young Prince of Navarre, future Henri IV, fought his first battle in 1570.
Two locations, two atmospheres
The activities are spread across two thematic sites: the town center, with its historic streets and squares, and the Parc de l'Arquebuse, which hosts encampments, demonstrations, and open-air shows. Costumed processions, historical sketches, medieval craft stalls, and animal demonstrations punctuate the two days.
Craftsmanship and period catering
Craftsmen offer their medieval-inspired creations: blacksmithing, leatherwork, pottery, jewelry, and period weapons. Food stalls offer medieval and Burgundian specialties for a complete immersion. The event is open to all and contributes to the tourist appeal of this small town between Auxois and Morvan.
