Every June 21, Amiens celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians, music school students, and professional artists play for free in the city's streets, squares, and cultural venues. Organized by Amiens Métropole, the day is entirely free and open to all.
The Fête de la Musique in Amiens
As everywhere in France since 1982, every June 21, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Amiens into an open-air stage. Music freely takes over public spaces, from the afternoon until the heart of the night, across all genres and for all audiences.
A festival spread throughout the city
Usually, Amiens Métropole sets up several stages in the city center — from the courtyard of the city hall to Place Gambetta — while local music associations, schools and conservatories, as well as the city's bars and restaurants participate in the celebration with concerts on terraces and in the streets. The Saint-Leu district and its Somme riverbanks traditionally extend the evening.
