Every June 21, Montceau-les-Mines celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians and local bands freely take over the streets, squares, and terraces of the city center. For one evening, the heart of the mining city of Saône-et-Loire transforms into an open-air stage, in a friendly atmosphere and for all tastes. The day is entirely free.
The Fête de la Musique in Montceau-les-Mines
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms Montceau-les-Mines into a large popular stage every June 21. To celebrate the summer solstice, music freely takes over public spaces, from early evening until late at night, in all genres and for all audiences.
A celebration throughout the city center
Usually, the city center of Montceau-les-Mines is closed to traffic for the occasion and given over to musicians and strollers alike. Open-air stages are set up in the streets, in the squares, and along the quays of the Canal du Centre, while bars and restaurants extend the celebration onto their terraces and inside their establishments. The conservatory, the bandstand, and the city's community venues traditionally participate in the event, offering a great diversity of styles, from pop-rock covers to Latin music.
