Classical music festival in Pays Bigouden
Notes Océanes is a classical music festival created in 2022 in Pays Bigouden, in Finistère. Supported by the association Concerts de Midi, which has been promoting classical music in Rennes for over 25 years, the festival offers chamber music concerts every summer in exceptional heritage sites: the church of Loctudy, the Manoir de Kérazan, and the church of Lesconil. Under the artistic direction of violinist Olivier Légeret, Notes Océanes brings together exceptional musicians for programs ranging from Bach to Piazzolla, in an intimate atmosphere where classical music is experienced up close with the artists and the ocean.
Since 2022, the Notes Océanes festival has brought chamber classical music to the heart of Pays Bigouden, in South Finistère. Born from the desire of the Concerts de Midi association to extend its summer programming beyond Rennes, where it has been promoting classical music for over 25 years, the festival offers an exceptional musical experience in a unique maritime and heritage setting.
Notes Océanes stands out for its choice of concert venues, which fully contribute to the musical experience. The Romanesque church of Loctudy, with its remarkable acoustics and 12th-century sculpted capitals, hosts the main concerts. The Manoir de Kérazan, an aristocratic residence classified as a historic monument surrounded by lush parkland, offers an intimate setting for chamber music. The Church of Notre-Dame de la Mer in Lesconil completes this trio of exceptional venues.
Under the artistic direction of violinist, conductor, and choirmaster Olivier Légeret, the festival features exceptional musicians from the greatest French and international ensembles. The programs explore the classical repertoire from Bach to Piazzolla, including Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Vivaldi, Dvořák, Fauré, and Ropartz. Discovery concerts allow the public to be introduced to chamber music in a relaxed and accessible atmosphere.
Notes Océanes offers intimate concerts where the audience is close to the musicians, creating a special connection between artists and listeners. The festival appeals to both discerning music lovers and novices, with discovery concerts at reduced prices and educational presentations of the works performed. This accessible and warm approach makes Notes Océanes a unique summer event in South Finistère.
The festival is part of the philosophy of the Concerts de Midi association, which for a quarter of a century has been working to make classical music accessible and vibrant. By establishing Notes Océanes in Pays Bigouden, the association extends its mission beyond Rennes, offering residents and holidaymakers on the Finistère coast a top-tier classical program in exceptional heritage settings.
