About One Country, One Film
One country, one film, one evening: the Un Pays Un Film festival showcases competing works from across the globe, with exactly one film representing each participating nation. Organized annually by the Un Monde Meilleur association, the event splits its screenings between the Le Modern cinema in Issoire and the village hall in Apchat, with a special focus on a different guest country each year.
One Country, One Film — edition 2026
The 17th edition, held from March 6 to 21, 2026, at the Le Modern cinema in Issoire and in Apchat, shines a spotlight on Japan. 56 films from 40 countries are in competition, including two Japanese feature films presented as previews. For those who missed them, the award-winning films will return in early September in Issoire and Apchat for outdoor screenings.
Founded in 2010, the festival features a selection where each country is represented by only one film. The 17th edition, taking place in March 2026, brings together 56 films from 40 countries at the Le Modern cinema in Issoire and in Apchat: 30 fiction works, 14 documentaries, and 12 animated films, including nine international premieres, three European premieres, and nineteen French premieres. Japan is the guest of honor, with two Japanese feature films presented as previews, a sushi-making workshop on March 8, and an ikebana workshop on March 14. Two screenings for young audiences are scheduled for March 11 and 21.
The award winners return from September 3 to 5 in Issoire and Apchat: the opening night on September 3 at the Issoire music school auditorium features the award-winning film "Whisper my Name" (Iran), followed by a reception hosted by the association Un Monde Meilleur. On September 4 and 5, screenings will be held outdoors at the Apchat village hall, with a special session for young audiences on September 5.
