The festival of Balkan cultures in Normandy
Printemps Balkanique is a biennial cultural festival organized since 2000 by the association Balkans Transit in Caen and Normandy. For one month, the festival offers a multidisciplinary program highlighting the cultures of Southeast Europe: music, theater, dance, puppetry, storytelling, classical music, and young audiences. Each edition focuses on a Balkan country, fostering artistic exchanges between Normandy and this region rich in traditions.
The Printemps Balkanique was born in 2000 on the initiative of the association Balkans Transit, based in Caen. Since its creation, the festival has been held every two years, offering a month-long immersion (March-April) into the cultures of Southeast Europe. Each edition highlights a Balkan country, providing the Norman public with a window into rich and little-known cultures.
Printemps Balkanique stands out for the diversity of its program: concerts of traditional and contemporary Balkan music, theater performances, dance, puppetry, storytelling, classical and romantic music, as well as a program dedicated to young audiences. The festival blends major Balkan artistic names with emerging creators, fostering discovery and intercultural dialogue.
Printemps Balkanique is not limited to Caen: it extends to various towns and villages in Normandy, bringing Balkan cultures closer to the inhabitants. The Balkans Transit association, located at 31 boulevard André Detolle in Caen, has been the driving force behind this event for over twenty years, building lasting links between artists, cultural institutions, and audiences from Normandy and the Balkans.
Since 2000, Printemps Balkanique has explored the cultural diversity of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey. Each edition is an opportunity to discover a rich artistic heritage and build bridges between European cultures.
