Brittany's biggest fest deiz ha noz in Châteauneuf-du-Faou
The Printemps de Châteauneuf is Brittany's biggest fest deiz ha noz (day and night festival). Organized every Easter Sunday in Châteauneuf-du-Faou in Finistère, it has brought together nearly a hundred musicians, singers, and dancers representative of Breton regions since 1976. Recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO since 2012, this unique event celebrates traditional Breton music with gavottes, andro, laridés, and plinn, in a festive and authentic atmosphere.
Every Easter Sunday, the Ar Sterenn hall in Châteauneuf-du-Faou hosts the Printemps de Châteauneuf, Brittany's largest fest deiz ha noz. Since 1976, this exceptional gathering has brought together enthusiasts of traditional Breton music for a day and evening of dances, songs, and music.
Since 2012, the Printemps de Châteauneuf has been recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, attesting to the universal value of this living tradition. The fest-noz, inscribed on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, finds here one of its most authentic and vibrant expressions.
Each edition brings together nearly 100 artists — singers, musicians, and dancers — representative of the different Breton regions. Repertoires passed down through generations come alive on the dance floor: gavottes, andro, laridés, plinn, and many other traditional dances. The audience, composed of seasoned dancers and curious newcomers, is carried away by the enchanting rhythms of the binioù, bombardes, and accordions.
The Printemps de Châteauneuf is, above all, a popular and friendly event. More than 2,000 people converge on Châteauneuf-du-Faou each year to share this unique day. A children's show, concerts, a singing walk, and the newspaper Mouezh ar Vro complete the fest deiz program before the fest-noz takes over in the evening for hours of dancing.
The event is organized by the association Nevezamzer and about a hundred volunteers, with the support of the municipality of Châteauneuf-du-Faou and Breton cultural actors. Their goal: to promote Breton culture through language, song, music, and dance, and to pass on this heritage to new generations.
