Reims' gardens open their doors to the public
Created in 2003 by the Ministry of Culture, Rendez-vous aux Jardins is a major national event that invites the public to discover the richness and diversity of French gardens. In Reims, this event takes on a special dimension thanks to the presence of remarkable gardens within historical monuments and prestigious museums. Each year, a different theme guides the programming and inspires gardeners and landscape designers in creating original activities.
In Reims, Rendez-vous aux Jardins allows you to discover exceptional green spaces. The Saint-Remi Museum, housed in the former royal abbey, opens the doors to its main courtyard where the gardeners of the city's green spaces department create an ephemeral plant installation each year. The Fort de la Pompelle offers discovery tours focusing on siege plants, those plants that grow in ruins and on battle sites. The Notre-Dame Cathedral itself is presented as a "gigantic garden of stone and glass".
Each edition revolves around a national theme chosen by the Ministry of Culture. In 2025, the theme was "Stone Gardens, Gardens of Stone", exploring the links between the mineral and the vegetal. In 2026, the 23rd edition celebrates "The Five Senses in the Garden: Sight", inviting visitors to take a new look at gardens and their palette of colors, shapes, and perspectives.
Beyond heritage discovery, Rendez-vous aux Jardins raises public awareness about the challenges of nature in the city, biodiversity, and ecological gardening. Guided tours by municipal gardeners help to understand how green spaces integrate into their urban environment and contribute to the quality of life for residents. In the Grand Est region, nearly 350 events are organized in 210 gardens across the territory.
23rd edition of Rendez-vous aux Jardins from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026, on the national theme 'The five senses in the garden: sight'. In Reims, the Saint-Remi Museum, the Fort de la Pompelle, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Jardin parallèle and several private gardens open their doors for free guided tours, digital trails, workshops, and botanical walks.
From Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026, Rendez-vous aux Jardins returns to Reims for its 23rd national edition. Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture, this year's event explores the theme 'The five senses in the garden: sight', inviting the public to take a new look at the palette of colors, shapes, and perspectives offered by gardens. Friday, June 5 is reserved for school groups by appointment, while Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 are open to all audiences.
In the Grand Est region, the DRAC lists more than 380 activities spread across 272 gardens, including 39 labeled 'Jardin remarquable' (Remarkable Garden): 288 free activities, 73 skill-sharing workshops, 92 guided tours, and 147 activities for young audiences. In Reims and the Marne, several emblematic sites are participating: municipal museums, historical monuments, private gardens, and independent cultural venues.
In partnership with the Valentin Haüy Association, the Ministry of Culture emphasizes the accessibility of the theme 'sight' for blind and visually impaired people. In Reims, the Jardin parallèle is among the five gardens in the Grand Est offering specifically adapted visits, with braille texts and dedicated audio stations.
