The rock festival at the foot of Apremont Castle in Vendée
Rock'n Vie is a rock music festival held every summer at the foot of Apremont Castle, in Vendée. Organized since 2017 by the association Énergie Musicale, it brings together five rock, metal, punk, and stoner bands each year for an evening of open-air concerts in an exceptional heritage setting. Between the medieval towers of the castle, the festival cultivates proximity between artists and the public, raw live energy, and a typically rock'n'roll conviviality. Accessible and family-friendly, Rock'n Vie makes the Vendée countryside vibrate every third Saturday of July.
Rock'n Vie was born in 2017 from the passion of a handful of volunteers united within the association Énergie Musicale, with a simple and tenacious ambition: to make rock resonate in the heart of the Vendée countryside. The chosen setting for this adventure is as improbable as it is spectacular: the lower gardens of the Château d'Apremont, a Renaissance jewel classified as a historic monument, whose towers and ramparts overlook the stage and offer a striking backdrop for the concerts.
Each year, on the third Saturday of July, the small village of Apremont transforms into the ephemeral capital of Vendée rock. From 5:30 PM to midnight, five bands take turns on stage, covering a wide spectrum of amplified music: classic rock, hard rock, stoner, alternative metal, punk rock, folk punk, and heavy psych. The programming favors eclecticism and discovery, mixing promising regional bands with established national acts.
What makes Rock'n Vie strong and charming is its intimate format. Far from giant festivals where the audience is lost in the crowd, here the proximity to the artists is total. Musicians play a few meters from the audience, exchanges are direct, and energy flows unfiltered between the stage and the pit. This human dimension is claimed by the organizers as a fundamental value of the festival.
The Énergie Musicale association, entirely composed of passionate volunteers, carries the festival with unwavering commitment. Each edition is the result of months of preparation, band research, partner outreach, and logistical organization. The result is a polished, warm, and generous event, where every detail reflects a love for rock and concern for the audience.
The Château d'Apremont, whose Renaissance remains dominate the Vie valley, gives the festival a unique atmosphere. Playing rock within walls steeped in five centuries of history creates a striking and poetic contrast that makes Rock'n Vie unique. The towers illuminated in the falling night, the ramparts echoing the distorted guitars, the garden transformed into an impromptu dance floor: the venue fully participates in the magic of the event.
This heritage location also makes Rock'n Vie a player in the cultural enhancement of the territory. Each year, the festival attracts an audience that discovers or rediscovers Apremont, its alleys, its castle, and its heritage, contributing to the tourist appeal of this characteristic village in northwestern Vendée.
Rock'n Vie is not confined to a single subgenre. The programming explores the multiple facets of rock with gusto: from heavy and soaring stoner to classic hard rock full of solos, from progressive rock with ambitious sound textures to festive and unifying folk punk, from powerful alternative metal to raging neo-metal. This diversity allows the festival to reach a wide audience, from genre purists to curious newcomers, and guarantees an evening rich in contrasts and musical discoveries.
Seventh edition of the Rock'n Vie festival at the foot of Apremont Castle: Seeds of Mary, Moundrag, Sons of O'Flaherty, La Raya des Agités, and Attic of Temple for an evening of rock, alternative metal, folk punk, and heavy psych in the open air.
The Rock'n Vie festival returns on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the foot of Apremont Castle for a seventh edition that promises to be explosive. Five bands will take over the stage from 7:00 PM for an evening of concerts showcasing the many facets of rock.
Seeds of Mary, a Bordeaux-based alternative metal band whose sound draws from the roots of Gojira, Alice In Chains, and Faith No More, while infusing it with the melodic fluidity of The Beatles and Pink Floyd, promises a powerful and nuanced set. Moundrag, a Breton heavy psych duo composed of two brothers, defies conventions with a furious Hammond organ and explosive drumming for guaranteed seventies vibes – all without a guitar. Sons of O'Flaherty, born somewhere between the Breton coast and Dublin pubs, will transform the stage into a grand folk punk party where each concert is a vibrant moment of sharing.
La Raya des Agités, a tribute band to Bérurier Noir, will bring their incisive riffs and raw energy, while Attic of Temple, a neo-metal band fueled by influences from the 90s and Rage Against the Machine, will close the evening with cathartic intensity.
