Jazz, swing, and boogie festival under the medieval arcades of Mirepoix
Swing a Mirepoix is a jazz, swing, and boogie-woogie festival held annually during Easter weekend in the medieval city of Mirepoix, in Ariege. Created in 1995, this musical event offers a paid IN program of concerts with internationally renowned artists and a FREE OFF program of concerts under the arcades of Place Marechal Leclerc, in an exceptional heritage setting.
Since 1995, the Swing a Mirepoix festival has been making the medieval bastide of Mirepoix vibrate to the rhythms of jazz, swing, boogie-woogie, and New Orleans music every Easter weekend. For four days, the Place Marechal Leclerc and its 13th-century arcades transform into a huge open-air music stage, welcoming thousands of spectators to discover talented artists in a unique heritage setting.
The festival is structured around two components. The IN program features paid concerts every evening under the covered hall, with renowned national and international jazz, swing, and boogie bands. The OFF program offers four days of free concerts under the arcades of the square, with bands that make the afternoons and evenings swing in a friendly and festive atmosphere. From New Orleans brass bands to gypsy jazz quartets, from boogie-woogie to rhythm'n'blues, all facets of swing are represented.
The bastide of Mirepoix, founded in 1289, offers a unique setting for the festival. The medieval covered walkways (arcades with timber framing) bordering the Place Marechal Leclerc, the 19th-century monumental hall, and the half-timbered houses create an inimitable atmosphere. The festival contributes to the animation of the city at Easter and traditionally marks the start of the tourist and cultural season in Ariege.
Driven by the Swing a Mirepoix association and a team of passionate volunteers, the festival has successfully built a loyal audience of discerning amateurs while remaining accessible to all. The association also offers swing and lindy hop classes throughout the year, making Mirepoix a true hub of swing culture in the southwest of France. The festival is supported by the Mairie de Mirepoix, the Conseil departemental de l'Ariege, and the Region Occitanie.
The 29th edition of Swing a Mirepoix will be held from April 3 to 6, 2026, for Easter weekend. The IN program includes the Bergin Quartet, Ze Funky Family, and Nirek Mokar & His Boogie Messengers. The OFF program will offer four days of free concerts, including La New Little Fanfare.
